Halloween and music. The two are definitely related. We all have our favorite cues which we only listen to when cool breezy October rolls around. And sometimes tracks which you have heard a million times and play throughout the entire year sound particularly fresh and new, and creepy, during this season - I blame that on Halloween. It reaches out, influences,... changes things.
Since I've known Bean (and before that), she's had an annual Tradition - the Halloween cd. Usually in excess of 40 tracks, they're packed with obscure selections from even more obscure horror films. They're loaded with sound clips and wonderfully bizarre songs and instrumental works by artists I've never known. And it's definitely an art form. She's taught me that the same 40 tracks can be manipulated to produce many different reactions and emotions. And the flow is the key. A playlist can fall on its face without it.
So here's "our" Halloween mix for 2010. I kind of just served as a ceremonial adviser. It's a little more mainstream than her cds, and it's intended to be listened to and not watched. That's important.
I think Bean's Halloween mixes are fun and dark and delightfully twisted. And it's just one of the many reasons I'm crazy about her.

Been listening to this all morning, eating roasted pumpkin seeds I swore off of last night after we ate a thousand of them.
Great list. Only halfway through now.
I'm very excited about this mix, Bean and Rot!!! I also make an annual Halloween CD, but I've never thought about using songs from movie soundtracks. Wonderful idea! Can't wait to hear it.
This playlist is amazing! I never thought to throw in movie soundbites in mine.
I was walking around my pasture the other day and glanced up into the woods. There was an old tree, tall and thin, that had snapped almost in the middle. The top half of the tree was off at an angle from the trunk, like an arm. There was a thick, ropey vine on the other side. My first thought was 'it's Roots, I'm done for'. I almost took off running before I realised it was just a tree!
Rot, Bean is one talented woman. Never let her go! :)
Awww, you two are so ridiculously cute and made for eachother! :)
I love, love. :)
Now, on to the music! THANK YOU for this, it's a neat gift from you guys to us. We can only repay you by enjoying it!
Awesome. I've been looking forward to your mix since September. I can't wait to listen to it!
Thanks for sharing this you guys. I'm just starting to listen and it sounds great.
dude, my almost 2-YO son is rockin' out to this mix. :) A new generation!
But, just one thing... where's Thriller and Montster Mash?
;)
Right after Ray Parker Jr's Ghostbusters. Keep listening.

"One of the many reasons I'm crazy about her."
