Second Halloween

Last night's rescheduled Halloween was a strange thing.  The weather was cold with a steady strong wind, with occasional gusts which repeatedly blew out jack o'lanterns and witch jars.  And then a light cold rain began to fall around 7pm.

Only 15 trick-or-treaters stopped by.

We had a fire going inside, with food and hot spiced wine.  During the night, some neighbors and friends and coworkers showed up and we had some laughs.  And all of us were thankful we weren't more affected by the hurricane.

At the end of the night, the neighborhood owl was hooting in the trees down the street.  And the cold rain made sure Second Halloween was over.  Such a strange year.

Decided not to take video of the Haunt this year.  I think I'll cite creative reasons for that.  The Witches seemed alive in my still photos.  I have a feeling that video would have detracted from that.  So I listened to my gut.

Here are some instant photographs Bean snapped during setup...

The tree stump cauldron seemed to be the star of the show.  So many people thought it was a real stump and not just cardboard, tape, and mache.

Yes we all thought it was real because of your amazing talent with mache and the astounding ability to make it look 100% real. Why aren't you working in Hollywood by the way?

Oh by the way, Bean's photos are always such a pleasure to see!

I agree, it was a strange Halloween year. The temps were perfect and chilly, but the rain made it too muddy and damp. I could of done without the breeze also.

Sucks that there is no video this year, but you do have a point with the witches. Especially the one witch that is looking right at the camera. Kinda like she is saying "Hey! What are you doing?"

Ha! I thought it was a real stump, too...

They DO look alive in the stills. Amazing work as always! The spine on the witch to the right, in the photos, is just spectacular! Creepy goodness!

So glad that you two had a safe Halloween despite the weather.

Happy Halloween, Rot & Bean! (Loved your 'fauxlloween' comment. Made me giggle.)

Tried to post just before Halloween to wish you both well during the storm, but as usual, my ability to read the captchas was failing me, so I finally gave up. ;-)

I have a feeling there will be a lot of tree stump cauldrons in the future.I love those witches.

Heres to a happy, safe and normal halloween next year! I hardly took any video of my haunt this year - I simply ran out of time. Hopefully I can stitch a short video together with mostly text and photos.

And the tree stump cauldron is totally fantastic. I thought it was real at first.

P.S.
Did you ever end up using your witch tikis?

15 is better then none? We're patiently waiting for more...2 so far =P

This definitely was a strange Halloween. I'm going to start sending good vibes out into the universe that next year is AMAZING =)

All in all sounds like you guys had a nice evening. Now I want some mulled wine ;)I will have to settle for regular. Cheers!

As I said, you really outdid yourself with the witches and the stump. It's like you caught them mid movement in the pictures so I can understand your choice. You are lucky! The king of Halloween gets not one, but TWO Halloweens this year ;)

Sorry to hear the weather didn't cooperate. I look forward to seeing your setup every year. These pics are still fantastic regardless.
Next year is coming...
Tennessee was cold but the winds died right at dusk on Halloween and stayed minor for the three days we haunt. I'm leaving some stuff up tonight then starting up Pumpkin Graveyard 2012 in the remote woods tomorrow..
Stop by spookyfranklin.blogspot.com if you wanna take a look. Not "PumpkinRot" epic but fun nonetheless..

Yeah, you inspired me to try and focus on my graveyard this year. I have an idea of a tree stump that has grown around or absorbed a tombstone or fencing. And, of course, paranormal light coming out of the stump.

Thanks, all.

Marrow, LOVED your display this year.
I never used the torches. I decided at the last minute that they'd be distracting behind the witches.

Wow! No video?! I feel somewhat disappointed... Have enjoyed your creativity each year for so many years... But I truly understand, many diehard haunters I know seemed out of sorts this year, and that was before any hurricane..

Sounds like it was a very intimate and appreciative Halloween though for Mrs. Rot and yourself. Happy Halloween!

Ours was pretty cool. Cold, cold, cold, but no rain during rescheduled hours. Lots of teenagers, lots of iPhone night photo questions were heard. Photos today.

Dude I totally thought the hurricane snapped some tree near your house and you used its stump as a cauldron. :)

Excellent work man!
