A Bowl Of Frute

Local supermarket had those two creature comebacks...Frute Brute and Yummy Mummy.  Purchased both, but only tried Frute Brute.
Sometimes the quest is way more important than the treasure.  But only when the treasure is pink cereal and not treasure.

Eh.  It's ok.  All of the monster cereals are shiny, and different than in their early years.  And this stuff looks toxic, and doesn't have the toxic fruit flavor I was expecting (and wanting).

Found some Halloween It'll-Turn-Your-Milk-Green Captain Crunch, so it wasn't a total loss.

I'm officially a child.

Growing up, we had a sticker in the basement of my parents' house...of the Frute Brute (spelled Fruit Brute back then).   None of us remember putting it there, and none of us could remember actually eating Frute Brute back then.  And my parents were the first occupants of the house, so it was strange indeed that a sticker had been stuck in a monster cereal's honor.

And it's still there.  Tonight, my mother called and said blood tears were dripping from it.  At the precise moment that I shouted "This cereal tastes like piss!"

That last bit was a lie.

Here's a shot of the 2013 Frute Brute cereal.  Which I swear has given me dry-mouth.

Halloween Morning

This painting felt like a clear blue October 31st morning.  An older couple inside having coffee, with a giant uncarved pumpkin on the table.  With some newspaper, a stubby candle, and a knife very nearby.

Halloween At High Noon

My personal favorite Halloween music when we're not listening to seasonal soundtracks or dark ambient stuff.  I've mentioned the guys at High Noon records before, and I figured a re-post was in order after finding out a new Halloween album will be released shortly.

Click below for some of their older stuff.
We play this one all year long.  The ancient version of Internet Explorer at work butchered these samples, so try to open them in Firefox or Chrome if you have it.

Blood Was Its Avatar And Its Seal

And now was acknowledged the presence of the Red Death. He had come like a thief in the night. And one by one dropped the revellers in the blood-bedewed halls of their revel, and died each in the despairing posture of his fall. And the life of the ebony clock went out with that of the last of the gay. And the flames of the tripods expired. And Darkness and Decay and the Red Death held illimitable dominion over all.

Return Of The Creature(s)

I'm way too excited about this news:  General Mills is bringing back two monster cereals from the past - Yummy Mummy and Fruit Brute, for the Halloween season.

I shall indulge in these fruity cereals.

The Lantern Out Of Doors

Sometimes a lantern moves along the night
That interests our eyes. And who goes there?
I think; where from and bound, I wonder, where,
With, all down darkness wide, his wading light?

Actias Humanias

At 10:30 on the evening of the fifteenth, Newell Partridge, a building contractor who lived outside Salem, West Virginia (approximately 90 miles northeast of Point Pleasant), was watching television when suddenly the screen blanked out, a "fine herringbone pattern appeared on the tube, and at the same time the set started a loud whining noise, winding up to a high pitch, peaking and breaking off, as if you were on a musical scale and you went as high as you could and came back down and repeated it.... It sounded like a generator winding up." The Partridges' dog Bandit began to howl on the porch, continuing even after they turned the set off.

Alone

From childhood's hour I have not been
As others were; I have not seen
As others saw; I could not bring
My passions from a common spring.
From the same source I have not taken
My sorrow; I could not awaken
My heart to joy at the same tone;
And all I loved, I loved alone.
Then- in my childhood, in the dawn
Of a most stormy life- was drawn
From every depth of good and ill
The mystery which binds me still:
From the torrent, or the fountain,
From the red cliff of the mountain,
From the sun that round me rolled
In its autumn tint of gold,
From the lightning in the sky
As it passed me flying by,
From the thunder and the storm,
And the cloud that took the form
(When the rest of Heaven was blue)
Of a demon in my view.

Euthanasia Coaster

The Euthanasia Coaster is an art concept for a steel roller coaster designed to kill its passengers.  In 2010, it was designed and made into a scale model by Julijonas Urbonas, a PhD candidate at the Royal College of Art in London. Urbonas, who has worked at an amusement park, stated that the goal of his concept roller coaster is to take lives "with elegance and euphoria".  As for practical applications of his design, Urbonas mentioned "euthanasia" or "execution".  John Allen, who served as president of the Philadelphia Toboggan Company, inspired Urbonas with his description of the ideal roller coaster as one that "sends out 24 people and they all come back dead".  As a hypothetical means of euthanasia, the design led to concern from anti-euthanasia association Care Not Killing.
