The Autumn People

We drove past a local school that still had a bunch of scarecrows outside from a contest.  Bean snapped some neat pics of these Halloween leftovers.  Loved seeing a school encourage this kind of event.  Lots of scary things with blood and spiders and Halloween imagery.

Awesome. You wouldn't see that here.

When we visited Sleepy Hollow last year, the elementary school had placed 100 scarecrows that the kids had made on the on ground of Lindhurst Castle. We were told that they kept them up through Thanksgiving! It so great to see this display as well!

Those are so much better than the Scarecrow Stroll that my local botanical garden has each year. I keep thinking I should enter something grotesque just for the kicks of freaking people out.

The haunters will slowly take back Halloween from the walmarts and targets and pc humbugs!!!! Schools will have Halloween parades and trunk or treats will be a distant memory! Baked goods and popcorn balls will reign! Sorry...dreaming out loud!

I miss seeing your yearly attempts to win best scarecrow in your town. Even though they never won (total nepotism, I'm sure!) because they weren't cute enough, I loved seeing your sinister creations breaking up the rows of insipid smiles!

The last is my fave, but the McDonald's Happy Meal Bucket head holds a special place in my heart.
