CaAm Missing Project

Been watching Dave Paulides videos regarding those mysterious disappearances I've mentioned.  Here's the official news story regarding James McGrogan's disappearance and death:

UPDATED Monday, April 7, 2014 --- 7:18 p.m.
EAGLE, Colo. (AP) -- Authorities say an Indiana man whose body was found north of Vail about three weeks after he became separated from fellow hikers fell to his death.
Eagle County Coroner Kara Bettis said Monday that 39-year-old James McGrogan died of multiple injuries, including head trauma. His death has been ruled an accident.
McGrogan, of Chesterton, Ind., disappeared March 14, and his body was found Thursday by a group of backcountry skiers about 4 1/2 miles from the trail. He was a physician who recently returned to Indiana from Wisconsin to work in the emergency room of St. Joseph Regional Medical Center in Mishawaka.

I think that some people are frustrated at how mundane life, and death, can be. They look for some other explanation, some conspiracy, something more extraordinary to explain things.

I listened to part 1 of the interview you shared and was just captivated by what I was listening to. I was raised in Colorado and was an avid hiker, hunter, and camper, spending many days in the back country. As a very young boy, my parents would let me venture far into mountains with nothing more than my tackle box and a fishing pole and never even thought twice about it. I spent an entire year in the hills of Oregon "Hunting Mushrooms" for a living and always knew where I was and never had a problem. Theses stories are so amazingly puzzling to me because I've spent so much of my life in the wilderness and have such a deep deep love and connection with it. I also find it quite amazing how this man is just sticking to the facts because it must be pretty hard not to start casting theories as to what is happening. Wanna go hiking Rot?

I think it's easy to dismiss this stuff as despair of grieving families or conspiracy-prone folks wanting more from the universe. I tend to think there's more to this phenomenon.

Colorado is a great place to get dead or disappeared. Lot of tourists have fallen to their deaths at Garden of the Gods and Helen Hunt Falls, which is particularly treacherous because of the slimy rocks in the warm season and ice in the winter. I had a relative, an experienced climber, fall to his death from Maroon Bells. I nearly fell to my certain death rock climbing when I was fifteen. There have been cases of children being snatched away from campsites by mountain lions. And of course there's the routine cases of someone getting stranded or lost in a blizzard, though locally we really don't get the snow a lot of the state does.
