Saw this on the Classic Movie Monsters blog today - Seymour Simon's Space Monsters From Movies, TV, and Books.
I owned this during the formative years, and I feel like I carried it around a lot. Took it places. Like a Pastor who carries around an old Bible. A real buzzkill at family events I'm sure (me and the Pastor).
So I looked the author up and found that he has a site and discusses the book:
Very cool. Loved this book. Constantly read it. Drew the monsters in it. And wanted the Martian from War of the Worlds as a pet.
Found a couple pages from it here.

While there is no denying that these odd creatures are far and away the most famous — or infamous, as the case may be — alien entities to have allegedly visited our world, the fact remains that they represent only a small portion of the truly bizarre beings, which people claim to have come into contact with over the decades.
Click below for an interesting look at all the strange things that might stand next to your bed at night:
Spielberg based the story on the Kelly-Hopkinsville encounter, where a Kentucky family claimed that they had been terrorized by gremlin-like aliens. Spielberg had heard the story from UFOlogist J. Allen Hynek while doing research for Close Encounters.Maybe it's a good thing this never happened. I'd have a hard time respecting 11 humanoid "scientists" who were interrogating chickens.
In Spielberg’s original treatment for Watch the Skies, eleven malicious extraterrestrial scientists try to communicate with chickens, cows, and other livestock in an attempt to discover which of Earth’s animal species are sentient, before turning their unwelcome attentions on the human family and dissecting their farm animals.
Sad news from their Facebook page:
Well the judge's ruling is in! The Haunted Garden has been permanently shut down. We just want to take a minute to say thank you to all our supporters, fans, neighbors and patrons that made our 4 year run such an incredible experience. Please do stay tuned though as we are trying to figure out our next move. The future is bright though and we are looking forward to great things!

For anyone who longs for toxic fruitiness from their cereal (with bright and unnatural colors), Post Foods has a limited edition called Summer Berry Pebbles. It brought me back to all the things I loved about fruity cereals from my childhood, like BooBerry and Frankenberry (not the modern versions of those Monster Cereals).
Unnaturally sweet and super bright, and 100% All-American (Red 40, White, and Blue 1).
