A Blog Of Thousands!!!

My 10,000th post.

I wonder if that's some kind of record in the world of blogger.com.
I wonder if there's a check in the mail headed my way.

I think of my blog as a weird Halloween lighthouse, some place to get Halloween all year long.  Even during Christmas.  Like a small dusty Halloween Store that never closes.  I'll stop blogging when either the internet dies, or I do.  So if the blog suddenly stops, call the police.

10,000.  That's a lot of blogging.  A lot of Yard Haunts, pumpkins, ghosts, witches, decorations, lights, music, horror films, trailers, and photo shoots.  A lot of Halloween.

Halloween's been incredibly good to me.  I've given it offerings of hard work and weird ideas, and it's rewarded me with an orange and black life that I get to share with my beloved Bean.  Halloween's how we both met, so I'm thinking It's going to come to collect one day.  And I'll pay up with relish.

I look back on how my appreciation for the Holiday has changed over the years, as well as my work's style and design, and it's no coincidence that things really took off when Bean became a part of my life.  It's affected my creativity, my methods, my outlook, and my drive.  I became better than I was.

So thanks, Halloween.  Even though I have everything I want, I'll continue to give you offerings of weird creatures and Dark things.  Things that live in Late October.

And thanks to my wife.  My Bean.
Truly, the love of my life.

Thank you for your blog and letting us be a part of your year round Halloween. Mostly thanks for giving us Halloween inspiration. Only the newest haunters and Halloween folk don't know the name "Pumpkin Rot" . Congrats! ( I wouldn't hold your breathe on that check!)

When I was searching the net years ago on how to build a scarecrow, I saw a title Pumpkinrot.com. It was that "Halloween lighthouse" that drew me in and sent me on the crazy ride to the home haunter that I've become.

I've seen and learned so much since I have started visiting here via other haunters, cool websites, and photos.

Congrats on the 10,000th post! Kudos to Bean for supporting Mr. Rot.

One more thing, always enjoy seeing Bean's LEGS too. :D

WOOHOO! I have to tell you...I have been ahuge lover of Halloween since I was a kid, but it wasn't until 2005 that I truly became a "Haunter". The internet was really what made my Halloween crazy take flight! And my main inspirations were your work, and talking with folks on Hauntforum and Halloweenforum. I just want to say thank you, from the bottom of my little pumpkin shaped heart, for helping usher me in to the world of Home Haunting! Cheers!

Love your blog - it's like diving into a huge raked pile of sweet fall leaves all year long!
And I especially enjoy reading about your appreciation for your partner/better half.
It adds a depth and warmth to the creepiness!

Hey Rot, you guys are like friends we've never met. I have vivid memories of when and where I was that are related to specific posts you've made. One being my cat sitting on my lap, late August and you posted the trailer to .found, which has that incredible track by Aaron Marshall, Alternate Universe..I tear up when I think about it! Also remember watching Swamp Foetus on Halloween morning as I brushed my teeth :)

The site has really become part of my daily life, and I truely appreciate all the work both you and Bean have put into it.

Seriously there is a endless amount of inspirational Halloween ideas, photos, songs, etc on here and that takes some work to constantly come up with something new to post every day.. especially when shits out of season. Bravo!

And personally I would not have nearly any exposure, traffic, or people looking at things that ive done if it wasn't for you guys posting it on here. Thanks x1000! :)

I adore this post! Congrats Rot! You and Bean have inspired me for years and I can't thank either of you enough! When I found your website and blog, I was a confused high schooler (my God, that was about 9 years ago now!), constantly wondering why my main interest and passion was, of all things, the holiday Halloween. I had no idea I would be lucky enough to find anyone else that would understand this passion - that it is so much more than a holiday, but a lifestyle. After stumbling on your works of art and Bean's photography online, I was beyond excited to know I was not alone! I'm so happy that Halloween not only brought you two together, but has been a part of your lives together over the years, allowing you to grow as artists and as a couple. Cheers to you both and cheers to a fantastic blog, now with 10,000+ posts! Keep them coming!

Wow! What an amazing 10K post. So much LOVE.
Thank you Ms. Bean!

I have met quite a few Haunters that LOVE Haunting but, you Sir, LOVE Halloween! When I had stumbled upon your 2003 Yard Haunt I said to myself, " This guy gets it!" I kept checking back to see if there were any new pics every so often. I was so Honored when Katzper's Haunt was featured on your blog back in 2008. Thank you for your inspiration and the recognition to all the Haunters that you have posted throughout the years.

Happy Halloween!!

Great post! This blog has always been ground zero in regard to keeping up with the Halloween world..
PS: for haunters - Home Depot is carrying some real cool motion lighting effects this year. For $20 a crack you can choose from spinning spiders, ghosts and witches and they also have some crazy spinning color lights that come in orange/red and look very large and shimmery like an "entity" on Star Trek..

Thanks for having this blog, John. I've been reading you and your site for over 10 years and have always looked forward to what you have to say, show, or create. Back in 2004 at the awkward age of 14, there were few Halloween websites to discover that updated regularly, and even fewer with any sort of quality that a fledgling artist could appreciate. I also remember when you got your blogger account, and I said to myself 'yeah right like there's enough tasteful halloween stuff out there to be worth posting weekly, let alone daily.' Boy was I wrong, and I am so, so glad I was.

You've sculpted me into a gothic artist and avid Halloween lover, and much of my life and my tastes are a result of what crawled across my screen on your websites. You're the mystery man who's been the longest-lasting influence on me that I can think of. The little bit that we've talked, I've appreciated, and have been excited just knowing I'm not the only one out there who appreciates the dark, woody, mysterious naturalness of the autumn contrasting against the plastic pumpkin buckets and cloth sheet ghosts. Usually I just get weird looks when I try to describe what Halloween is to me, and even those odd looks I've learned to love.

I don't check your website as often because of how busy I am animating or sculpting, but I think of your site often and wonder what I'm missing out on. I hope you keep going at whatever until your flesh rots off your bones, driven by a primal heathen fire inside you that few will understand. If you keep this up at the rate you are, you're going to be a singular steering force redirecting the holiday wherever you see fit.

So, thank YOU for everything. I don't quite know who I'd be if it wasn't for you.

I am always so appreciative that I know the perfect holiday lives daily on your blog. When it's mid-July and 90 degrees in Ohio and I want to punch everyone, I come here and the orange and black takes me to a place where I am calm and happy. Thanks so much for providing that to me and so many other readers.
