I read it many years ago, I don't remember him wearing anything like this atrocity.

Pennywise was supposed to have been around for centuries. Tim Curry was great but I always thought his costume was too contemporary. I'm not a fan of the miniseries, aside from Curry, so I'd like to think they could do better with this. But I won't get my hopes up.

Good grief he looks so fucking stupid.

Your choice is better. If they're going for that old Vaudeville look. It Needs to be as if it is a sad man in makeup.

I don't think Pennywise's costume is described in too much detail in the book, aside from the orange pom-poms for buttons. Possibly because It looks a little different to each of the kids. King has said he was thinking of Bozo and Clarabell when he came up with Pennywise, so I think the Tim Curry version gets the job done perfectly.

Not sure about this one. I like the idea of a more vintage costume, and from reading the article it's clear a lot of thought went into designing it. In execution though...overall this is leaning a little too heavily into "evil clown" territory for my taste, which kinda defeats the purpose of the clown. Pennywise is a disguise, to lure in Its prey. Granted, the actor is doing a sinister glare, the photo is dark and foggy - maybe it's just a marketing choice. Hoping he's a lot less obviously evil in the movie. As my girlfriend (who is a huge fan of the novel) said, "No kid would be fooled by that."

I'm actually on board with the face, the rest is ridiculous.

Oh dear lord Noooooooooooo!
"The face of the clown in the stormdrain was white, there were funny tufts of red hair on either side of his bald head, and there was a big clown smile painted over his mouth. If George had been inhabiting a later year, he would of surely thought of Ronald McDonald before Bozo or Clarabell.
The clown held a bunch of balloons, all colours, like gorgeous ripe fruit in one hand.
He was wearing a baggy silk suit with great big ornage buttons. A bright tie, electric blue, flopped down his front and on his hands were big white gloves, like the kind Mickey Mouse and Donald Duck always wore."

omg yessss!!! clown is SO awesome!!! i LOVE the suit in that flick & the look of the clown is Beautiful!!. & the movie was made possible by eli roth. eli saw the original short of it online & the director pulled a slick & kept promoting the film as being directed by eli roth, sooo every time eki saw his OWN name pop up as the director, he was like, "what, hmmmmm that dude has some big balls!!!". eli checked it out & fell in love with it. so eli gave the director the opportunity to do his film properly as a feature length w/ a budget too. hence, eli's cameo in the movie as a clown!!!! (super tiny cameo--very cool tho) plus Peter Stormare is part of the cast, so YEAH!!!!! God, i love that man.

we got our copy from amazon australia. w/ shipping it was still SUPER cheap. when i heard the story about eli hooking that dude up, made me dig eli EVEN more than i already do. he's sucha good sport & heavily into supporting other directors, i LOVE that.

Colleen...i am SO excited that you saw Clown & liked it!!!. : )

I have read the book several times and love it. Honestly I don't remember any description of how he was dressed. This strikes me as a bit frilly, but who knows, maybe it will work. Loved the clown costume from AHS Freakshow...that was scary and intense. (and filthy)

i LOVE Tim Curry too Autumnleaf. i have such a HUGE crush on him. he's PERFECT in my eyes. hard to believe that just one human being can be packed to the rafters with such Brilliance as he is. he's made so many people happy!! truly, there is NO other like him. p/s...his comedy songs/albums...hahahhaa!!..<3

i looked up the new Pennywise actor (Bill Skarsgard) & oh man...i didn't realize he's the younger bro of Alexander Skarsgard from True Blood & the most recent actor to play Tarzan & son of crazy cool Stellan Skarsgard!! very very interesting. i also noticed how they're really playing up Bill's eyes with the Penneywise makeup, really trying to capture Tim Curry's gaze. as Tim does have those lovely, soulful, slightly bulgy eyes. i gotta at least check it out now!!
