Thanks : )

I made him an old corncob pipe, but it just didn't feel right...I've been meaning to snap a photo of it clasped in his old wooden teeth...

each time i see him...i think he's SO still, but at the same time i can feel him moving. i think that's because of that spidery - fiery action on his back. he's always reconstructing & reforming himself with each return & re.entrance to a New Halloween. like he's ALL fire (his natural state) & then wham!!!! he becomes solid but always always with that patch of dancing fire burning on his back. like the soft spot on the tip a baby's head. like...that's his portal or something like that.

he should be your xmas card some year.

Ahh, I just noticed his hip bones (pelvis? I don't really know anatomy). He must really be so good to see in person.

I agree - he would be a great xmas card.

Those are smooth pieces of knotted driftwood from the Delaware River. Many of his bones are made from pieces of wood that spent a lot of time in the water...

Rot, did you ever explain how he was made? That's really cool you used organic material . I assumed it was paper mache. Lol, really REALLY detailed mache.

Rot said...

I never really discussed it. usually I use organic material to enhance a prop and 'fake out' the viewer...leaving fingers and hands as non-organic stuff painted to look organic...I worry about twigs and branches snapping and breaking. But for this guy, anything that looks like a twig is a twig. So the hands are completely organic. And I lived in total fear of damaging him before Halloween. Carrying him up from the basement was intensely stressful, as he barely fit up the stairwell.

The teeth are made from snapped twigs....the nose is a real pumpkin stem...something that a little girl noticed on Halloween and it made my night "HIS NOSE IS A PUMPKIN STEM!!!" She yelled.... had I had a king sized candy bar in the house I would have given it to her. but, well, you know...

Hah! Right.;)

Thanks for sharing. Incredible piece of art. You're gunna need to rent out a space sometime and do an installment. Let somebody other than you run it. That'd be cool. And by "you're guna need to" I realize that translates to nope, not really for ya lol. Seriously though...I can see it now. Unless of course these pieces are only meant to be seen in the environment they are created for.

That'd be interesting.
I think I'd have to know that the props would be displayed in proper lighting...
Like if there's an art gallery out there somewhere that operates out of an old dank dark smelly barn, I'm all-in ; )

Interesting.

I'm clinging to my guys like nobody's business...The Blinds, but this guy is extraordinary. This is my favorite display alongside Catacombs. I think each figure is just fiat out perfection.
