Ye Goblins Karnival, 1921

Turns out my great great grandfather was a Yard Haunter.  Found a bunch of photos in my parents' attic over the weekend.  It seems we had a lot in common.

So this Halloween, rather than doing my own Haunt, I've decided to simply feature his Haunt.

I feel he would have wanted that.

Here's one of the photographs we found.

Very cool, to find out that you and your grandpa had this connection.

WOW, that is definitely very cool. Keeping the tradition alive in the family. Would love to see more photos.

Can't wait to see this.

I hope my "tongue in cheek" tag was seen by all : )

uh oh.
I'll come clean...as I'm thinking it's not that obvious...

We staged that photo...as this Haunt will be a period piece, set in a different time.... A Halloween Haunt from 1921. Going to feel/look like October 31, 1921.

Brilliant and very original. Cannot wait for October.

I've always wondered what a vintage haunt by you would look like. I can't wait. Make your "great great grandfather" proud!

HAHA. Ok, I got it now. :D

Still will be cool to see what you come up with as a period haunt.

I love that concept and of course I will be looking forward to everything you guys create, but lately with all of the alien /Greys/ abduction postings I really thought you were steering in a Alien/Visitors themed direction this year. Retroween cool.

Rot said...

haha..yeah..aliens/alien abductions have always been a constant theme...

and...

You had me going for a sec when i read this. I saw the tongue in cheek label and was like wait a second...
Sounds like a great theme. Vintage, very organic and primitive i'm hoping. And with Bean's photography style (Did she take this one?) It'll be wonderful. I was thinking of vintage goblins this year too, like in the old postcards.
You're not in my head, are you? ;)

Rot said...

Yup..she took it.
we had fun getting it to look that way. Happy I still had old decaying corn in the corner of the yard.

No goblins in the works though... : )
In name alone...

Very cool, inspired idea! Your grandfather was a genius. Can't wait to see it, so many possible interpretations.
Admittedly I thought it was gonna be alien invasion as well, but I did just watch Arrival over the weekend, which I loved.

AMAZING concept!! This photo looks straight out of the 1920s. Very Haunted Air. Can't WAIT to see all the awesome things you do with this idea in October! It'll be a trip back in time, courtesy of Rot and Bean! Love it.

Very clever theme Rot. Will we some still get a HD video of "his" haunt? :)

I'll see if I can find any old reels in dusty old cans...

very, very cool idea...and yeah, I have "Haunted Air"--Bean's photos could be in there. she does a great job with the camera!

One word: outhouse. A local halloween tradition to steal 'em and drop at least one at every street intersection. But just a decrepit little old potty structure lurking in an overgrown yard says old school Halloween to me.

Oh hell yes, this is a fantastic idea. I can't wait to see it all!

This is going to be fun....so many possibilities.

Ha! I love this concept so much! Kind of a great story idea... looking forward to seeing the final haunt!

Apparently my great great grandfather's prop-building skills were extremely similar to mine.
