I used to share an office with a really funny guy named Thor (short for Thornton)...years before the Thor movies, but we all still said his name in a deep superhero tone whenever we said it...so I can't imagine what he endured after those Thor movies came out.

We often spoke about random stuff and one day he said "hey, you see that movie about ghosts..." or something similar...and I said "eh...nah...I'm not really interested in ghost stuff...it's stupid." And it was true at the time...i think i even made a disgusted face and waved him off like a Queen waving off a dirty peasant.

He goes "whoa whoa WHOA...wait a MINUTE...I have to sit here and listen to you talk about UFOs and aliens and stuff like THAT, but you draw the line at me mentioning ghosts!?"

hilarious... he was pretty worked up. rightfully so.

Guy has a point. The ghost stuff should "get" you just like the alien stuff does. It's the only other thing aside from UFO and possession stories that actually gets semi-seriously mentioned in our real world. I'm surprised your not a fan. This story was real cool by the way. Tried reading into the comments but it gets a bit messy. Is it worth it?

i was just a late-comer to the ghost thing.

I'm totally a believer. Too many non-whacko intelligent folks have seen them or experienced stuff.
and who am i to say they're lying?

i was just late to the game.

I had a conversation with a friend of mine the other day as to how frustrating it is that parapsychology never gets taken totally serious. Shows like Ghost Hunters at one point made us believe that someone was doing the right thing by not always hearing or finding something and being purely scientific about it. Then the show is on for almost ten years now and you realize the network has to have their hands in it and rig some stuff to keep the shoe alive.
And then of course come the dip-shit copy cats like Ghost Adventures and that meat head guy, which then in turn push the actual science of paranormal research back 20 years.
I really wish it can get the scientific attention it deserves actually make some progress towards real answers.

couldn't agree more.

tired of those shows thinking like we WANT to see tons of proof and hear scary EVPs. I'd be fine with a bunch of older folks who never found ANYTHING. But listened to the tales told by the folks in the homes.
That's why Haunted Houses by the insanely talented Corinne May Botz is a must-own:

A mature intelligent way of presenting the paranormal.
Subtle and awesome : )

Majority of people don't believe in ghosts, and I always respected that. But it is SO much when I can show them proof. I have had only 2 experiences(that I know of). One when I was around 9 or 10, and one just a few years ago.

But I don't fit into the proper category. I'm definitely wacko and non-intelligent. :D

haha
definitely a whacko at least ; )

This stuff looks great! I am ordering this asap. I don't want to look through all the photo's in fear of spoiling the book entirely. Love the subtlety she uses.

And thats where i think those shows do the science a disservice. Your right, we DON'T want to see something every damn time because it ruins the credibility of the show. But, if you saw one really profound bit of evidence every 3 seasons it would help the show retain some integrity. They are obviously catering to the mindless public who want to see action all the time, but to actually start answering questions honestly and to move forward it almost has to be presented as 80 percent skeptic 20 percent believer in order to even start looking credible.
Then at least you would know the person or people behind the research were doing it for answers and not entertainment

:D

It feels good to be crazy.

there's some amazing audio recordings at that link to botz's site. Stuff not in the book.

One from a lady who lived in a farmhouse telling a tale about something so crazy that happened to her and her husband...and I totally believe it.

A LONG time ago I recalled reading about the creator of Buffy the Vampire slayer having something in mind for a low-budget low key series. With an older ghost hunter traveling around England trying to help folks. But small-scale stuff.

I'd LOVE to see something like that now. Intelligent writing and subtle stories.

Paranormal Witness on SyFy gets that right (most of the time)...when they aren't embellishing too much.

so far this lady sounds very convincing

Really good stuff, i wish everyone who had an experience was that matter of fact about it. No embellishment. No "I just sensed something", just straight laced. Loved this. Going to check the rest out for sure

yeah, like she was just telling you a story about some random thing.
no sensationalism at all.

I find it hard these days to get scared by "ghost" stories, so I was pleasantly surprised that this one creeped me out. Thanks for sharing!

Awesome read on a saturday morning!! I have to agree with what you guys are saying about shows like Ghost Hunters. LOVED when that first came out and they were visiting private homes not always finding much of anything. There was even one particular episode where the woman that called them out was clearly a whackadoo saying things like "He's herrrrrreee" Oh for the love. And their reactions clearly let you know, the viewer, that they realized it was crap. But they showed it anyway.

Now, I feel like they're constantly finding "evidence" and has anyone else noticed their format feeling more like Ghost Adventures? Disappointing to say the least. But I'm sure that the majority of the public likes it better this way =P
