The word 'genius' gets tossed around pretty casually, but I'm pretty sure Danny Elfman qualifies...the man is a musical savant, and, despite all of the awards and accolades, still somehow seems like an underrated cultural treasure.
Besides, he also has a deep and abiding love of Halloween, so is also just plain cool.
**Note: for anyone that finds that they appreciate 'Happy', but hasn't necessarily been exposed to the entire Elfman pop catalog, I would also humbly suggest 'Insanity' off of the 'Boingo' album.
Thanks for the song recommendation. I must confess to not knowing much of his catalogue outside of the few songs they play around Halloween and of course his film scores. And I agree about him being an underrated icon.
HAPPY was such an amazing surprise when it popped up a couple years ago. I was instantly hooked.
