In the bosom of one of those spacious coves which indent the eastern shore of the Hudson, at that broad expansion of the river denominated by the ancient Dutch navigators the Tappan Zee, and where they always prudently shortened sail and implored the protection of St. Nicholas when they crossed, there lies a small market town or rural port, which by some is called Greensburgh, but which is more generally and properly known by the name of Tarry Town.
From the listless repose of the place, and the peculiar character of its inhabitants, who are descendants from the original Dutch settlers, this sequestered glen has long been known by the name of SLEEPY HOLLOW...
- Washington Irving, The Legend of Sleepy Hollow
Spent yesterday in Rye, New York and the beautiful Hudson Valley. Got to see some original artwork from Charles Addams and Edward Gorey at the Rye Arts Center. We then headed to Sleepy Hollow and visited the Old Dutch Church and Cemetery and checked out some local taverns. In the evening we visited with friends, and as we pulled away to head home, we heard hundreds of Spring Peepers in a local marshland. Ichabod's mind would have gotten the best of him.

Sheesh...that's a LOT of wonderful packed into a single sojourn.
Very cool, I'm jealous of all of the history and cool places you have to visit there on the east coast. We don't have anything even close here on the west coast.
Before I leave this mortal coil, I'd love to visit New England in the Fall and go to Salem, Ma., Providence, RI, and Baltimore, MD. Can you guess why I've chosen those places?
That Witch follows you everywhere...
haha Totally does. Always following.
Looks like a great time! I definitely plan on making the pilgrimage one day.
Looks like a fun trip with a whole lot to see and do. How do you manage to drive that witch around? Does she break down into sections? Someday I have to explore the northeast. I bet you got the Negroni cocktail as that is one of your favorites isn't it?
Haha...The Negroni really is my current go-to. I ordered one tonight made with Mezcal!
The Witch is tricky. Her hat is made to come off or she wouldn't be able to fit in any car. But she still has to be squeezed into the car on an angle with the seats down.
The Witch! She looks magnificent in that scenery!
Thanks! It was fun bringing her along.
If you get a chance, check out Addams Fest in Westfield NJ in October. It’s his hometown. They go all out. Tons of his original work is on display as well.
Thanks!
