The Old Ones

Nor is it to be thought that man is either the oldest or the last of earth’s masters, or that the common bulk of life and substances walks alone. The Old Ones were, the Old Ones are, and the Old Ones shall be. Not in the spaces we know, but between them, They walk serene and primal, undimensioned and to us unseen.

Hell Mouth

The Derweze area is rich in natural gas. While drilling in 1971 geologists accidentally found an underground cavern filled with natural gas. The ground beneath the drilling rig collapsed, leaving a large hole with a diameter of about 50-100 meters. To avoid poisonous gas discharge, it was decided to burn the gas. Geologists had hoped the fire would go out in a few days but it has been burning ever since.

Ki, Ki, Ki ... Ma, Ma, Ma

2885

The art of Michael Fichtenmayer.

Neat site with some great pointers on adding detail to creations.
The artist works with miniatures, but a lot of his techniques could be applied to larger materials.

He uses stretched cotton to create seaweed. That'd be a neat detail on a prop. I imagine it'd look really cool hanging from life-sized figures of Blake and his men from THE FOG (one of those pie-in-the-sky prop-builds I'm always thinking of).

Black Licorice

My father ate black licorice constantly. Don't know if that's why I waited so long to finally try it. Guess I figured if he liked it, it must be bad. After all, these were the parents who introduced their children to vegetables in the form of canned peas and brussels sprouts. Ever see a canned pea? It's wrinkled and brownish-green. Army green, actually. They came off the stove and out of the pot at room temperature bordering on cold. And the brussels sprouts were just the most horrific things. They still are. Didn't they have frozen vegetables back then? Or ones covered in cheese? Couldn't my mom melt some beautiful cheddar cheese on a fresh piece of broccoli or a sweet carrot?

When I finally tried and enjoyed black licorice in my college years, I wanted to strangle them with it.

Now Playing: Moon

Watched this neat film over the weekend and was thrilled to see composer Clint Mansell's name in the credits. His score to The Fountain is something of a religious experience.

Old School Colors

Was thinking about how neat it'd be to do a yard haunt in old-school fashion. A love-letter to all the things I loved as a kid. But with a darker twist so it would still have a nice creepy feeling to it.

A rubber-masked dummy in a chair looking more like a dead body than a stuffed pile of clothes, pumpkin-headed ghosts, tree ghosts with skeletal torsos, a yard of cross gravemarkers, spider webs, hanging skulls, and a few strings of flashing lights.

Every year I decide on a particular flood light color for my display. Last year it was amber. It was blue for the Hollowmen, and green for the Ghost Dead. I'm thinking the perfect color combination for an old school haunt would be blue and red.
i
I think this amazing photo from Toxictoons.com sums it up perfectly.
