I posted about this before, but I get a lot of questions about Johnny Appleseed's hat. It's a fabric witch hat, spray-painted tan with the point poked inward. Haven't seen one of that quality in quite a long time. The fabric is thick and textured. All the witch hats sold these days are cheap and vinyl. This one must be over twenty years old.

Yeah, when I tried finding a thick witch hat, it was almost impossible. They only sell ones that are literally see-through...
Might try Micheal's or other craft stores when they put their Halloween stuff out. I've seen felt witch's hats in places like that. There are also ones made of velvet that might give an interesting texture.
Take a look at the online costume shops for a Sorting Hat from Harry Potter. It's got a real witchy feel to it and is made out of fabric. A little paint to dirty it up and I think it would look pretty good. That's what I'm going for with my stirring witch prop next year.
