The Day After Halloween

Woke to find restored cable, phone, and television.  Finally catching up on everything.  Been a crazy weird week.

Started decorating yesterday morning and then some of the neighbors let me know our township rescheduled Halloween for Friday night.  So I didn't put out any of the props, just the witch jars and the cornstalks, and I had planned to light the softening jackos.

I have to admit to being pretty bummed about Halloween being postponed.  Something just seemed off about that decision.  So I watched old dvr'd episodes of Paranormal Witness and horror movies from the collection.

A door bell ringing.

Kids were trick-or-treating.  It was Halloween sunset, and they were coming.  You know those dreams a Haunter has, where you're running around trying to set up your display while kids are coming for candy?  Well, that was me.  Lighting pumpkins and witch jars, and trying to set up the fogger and position the Witches.  I tripped over a flower pot in the bushes and fell on my face...  It was hectic, but not stressful.  It was fun.  And funny.

Halloween came.  Despite the township.  Despite the stupid hurricane.

Hope everyone had a Wonderful and Happy and Safe Halloween.

Yeah, Halloween just isn't Hallowe'en when it's held on another night. We had a mini Halloween night a week ago because here in the GCC most people leave during the Eid break. So we had a night for the kids who might be elsewhere on actual Halloween night. Took all my decorations in the next day but put them out again for the night before real Halloween. Wasn't sure if or how many trick or treaters we would get on the actual night but we got enough to get rid of the candy!

Glad you got your amazing haunt together without any broken bones! Sure the trick or treaters were happy to be out and spooked :)

I've had that dream! It's right up there with forgetting to do my homework and sleeping through Xmas.

Awesome story..can't waits to look at the pics. The weather turned out to be great here in pa.

Your set this year is incredibly breathtaking. I am beyond words really. The detail, the lighting, all of it...just....amazing. Hats of to you and Bean! I used my little Jacko from Bean in my display this year. He was probably one of my favorite details in my entire haunt. Thanks for that!

Oh and the Kara Tinie is really intense. I want to save her. :(

As for the Trick-or-Treaters, will they be back tomorrow? I hope so. They deserve to see it all in full effect!

hey thanks : )

I was just looking at photos from your haunt...I love that you pulled it off..the giant scarecrow looks amazing.

Yup...they'll be back they said. It was a light turnout last night, but just enough for some Halloween magic.

I have a feeling there will be a lot of kids tomorrow.

Amazing, Inspiring, Creepy, Halloween!!

wow...well, I'm in love with those spectacularly eerie witches but those 'corn stalk dudes' in the cocoons are really fabulous. amazing creations, rot, truly amazing. it's a set-up that's deliciously nightmarish -- if I was a little trick 'r treater, I'd hesitate before trying to collect some goodies from your house! (but I'd still do it...)

Thanks : )

And I'm planning some photoshoots for these guys...the deathlies have some detail hidden by the cornstalks....like pointy spikes on their backs.

And I'd love to get the Witches out into a wooded setting (though they're each really heavy and awkward). I built them around stacked paint cans to keep them from falling over.

I have had that dream myself. I think it is just part of the passion for the holiday. It was not a good year for me. I put a lot of time into my display and not one trick or treater came to my house. I live in the country so I do not expect more than three or four, but this year I did not have a single one. It feels like a waste of time in some ways.

Your display is freaking amazing as always Rot. I am glad you are getting to enjoy the season in spite of the disruption of the storm and most of all I am glad you are alright.

Fantastic! The pictures look great! As always!

Yeah, that dream. I ended up doing the same thing. The ONLY trick-or-treaters we got last night came when we were about 75% done with the setup. No one else came all night.

Nor rain, snow, or some b**ch hurricane named Sandy can hold back Halloween!

I love those corn cocoons.

The Leer tinie is my favorite in case you were taking an unscientific poll.

I'm so glad that you guys faired will with the storm. My thoughts were with y'all.

What a crazy night! I'm happy that you were still able to have Halloween on Halloween :)

Happy belated, Halloween to you both :)

I am so in love with the cornstalk creatures, they are just amazing. The hands!!! Gahhh! Everything looks so wonderful and creates such a chilling atmosphere. Gorgeous.

Glad you had those who ignored the township. My neighborhood doesn't get many Trick-or-Treaters but I had more last night than previous years.

Good luck on Friday.

You can't reschedule Halloween any more than you can reschedule sunrise. The Dead do not reschedule.

SOOO good to hear Halloween did indeed come for you and Bean this year Rot.

The witches are breath taking. Such dynamic poses. The one on the left which addresses on lookers is particularly disturbing.

The newly added Tinies are wonderful too. I've always been a huge fan of these.

Once again you've pulled off an amazing and inspiring display sir!

Thanks so much, guys.

Wonderful work as always!!!! Regarding the Tinies, what great photography! I especially loooove Grickle and Kara. And as for the haunt, I still can't get over that awesome tree-stump cauldron. Wow! All the figures look so realistic and creepy. I bet your trick-or-treaters were sooo amazed. Glad you had a good Halloween (despite the "false alarm")! :D

The Tinies. Love. I think Jody and I would get along. So fantastic, I actually was speechless.

Rot said...

awesome. Thanks!

Was SO happy with that shot of Jody. Bean snapped the ones of Jody and Ince...

This immediately came to mind reading your story:

And Sandy Grinch, with his Grinch-feet ice cold in the rain,
stood puzzling and puzzling,
have I gone insane?
It came without cable.
It came without lights.
It came without props or vampire bites.
And he puzzled and puzzled 'till his puzzler was sore.
Then the Grinch thought of something he hadn't before.
What if Halloween, he thought, doesn't come from a store.
What if Halloween, perhaps, means a little bit more.

;)

HA!
That.
Is.
Great.

Your shots are better than anything else I have ever seen that is Halloween related PERIOD.

What kind of reactions did you get? If I saw this in person I would probably just start to hand you money.

Phenomenal photographs, Rot!
The detail on the deadlies and deathlies is astounding. The crude jackos look truly creepy.

And this year's tinies are the best yet. I couldn't possibly pick a favorite.

Looks like you've outdone yourself.
Again.

Rot said...

Thanks, all!

Reactions were really good. The stump seemed to impress folks, so that made me happy. So many people thought it was a real stump and not a prop.

Shani said...

Awesome, awesome, awesome!!! The display really looks incredible! I am loving the tree stump. So glad that you got a few trick or treaters. Well worth the rushing around to set up =) Another fine job Sir!
