The Original Freddy

We just finished watching Never Sleep Again and there was a HOLY CRAP moment that I wanted to share.  Fantabulously Awesome actor David Warner was the original Freddy Krueger, but had to drop out due to some kind of conflict.  We were stunned that we never heard of this before.

I'd never change how it all played out, since I worship Robert Englund's Freddy, but I found myself craving a peek at that alternate timeline, where Warner was the man in the striped sweater.

Highly recommend this documentary.  So many amazing stories about the production of these films.  And nothing was sugar-coated.  Lots of war stories.

Absolutely loved every minute of it.

Damn. I also loved Robert Englund as Freddie, but I would love to see David Warner's version of Freddie also.

He probably rues the day that he passed on the role, not knowing how many sequels it would spawn. Or maybe he doesn't. I always sensed that Anthony Hopkins had mixed feeling about being Hannibal Lecter for life.

Biting my nails waiting to watch this darn thing. Instead all I got to watch tonight was Disney Jr., which ironically enough, is kinda like my personal hell.

Thanks for sharing! Looking forward to the war stories.

I really would have loved a peek at that time line too. Love David Warner.

(And thanks for the Time After Time link...you know how much I love that movie.)

It was interesting hearing the folks who made the second one saying stupid stuff like "well, in the FIRST one you really didn't even see that much of freddy's face! so we wanted to show you more of freddy."

AAAAAAND they blew it.

Yeah...show me more of the shark in the first JAWS. Fools.

Watched it over two days after seeing your post about it. I so loved the original, especially the way Fred was handled, pure Halloween/horror brilliance. Stunned to see the David Warner piece as well and the original look they intended. Highly recommend for the Nightmare fans out there. Funny and poignantly sad at times. I must have been under a rock because I hadn't a clue that "VS" did that kind of money at the box office.

So you saw it? Cool!! I still haven't gotten a chance. But now I'll put it at the top of my "to-watch" list, especially after hearing how much y'all loved it. Hard to imagine anyone else playing Freddie, but David Warner is a badass.

I'm glad Freddy doesn't have an English accent, though. He should be an all-American psycho.
