We've tried growing pumpkins before, it never worked. We finally have one that grew perfectly, although it is already completely orange so I guess we were early. This year we tried manually pollinating the flower and it worked. So, we have a pumpkin and we are kind of pumpkin sex workers I guess. But a win's a win!

Oh PLEASE hurry.

agreed..it needs to hurry up.
Polar Vortex for September.. ha

Yeah..we have one small pumpkin forming...and the rest of our vines are so small with small leaves. Very annoying.

If one chipmunk ruins that one pumpkin, I'll attempt to murder all chipmunks within two miles of my house.

I have already seen the first sign of fall here! I'm beginning to see red leaves popping up on trees :D

The only luck we've had with pumpkins is the year we had a vine just pop up from the squirrels eating the previous years pumpkins and spreading the seeds. Every time we've tried....nothing! Or we'll get one....and the damn squirrels start eating it before it matures. Bastids!!

I can't wait. It is my favorite time of the year.

I put my pumpkins, gourds and Indian corn out a month letter this season. I'm in Northern KY and the planting season is not quite Southern or Midwestern. Last year I put them out in May and the were ripening in August. So I tried the first of July this year. Shooting for an October ripening. If we get the polar vortex in September the frost may get them.

On a positive note, last weekend I hit up the Yankee Candle Halloween day. They had a cool old school skeleton football player/candle holder. Not sure if he's new?

hey, maybe you guys already know this, but, anyways..a daily spoonful of 100% raw pure (canned) pumpkin mixed in with your kitty or dogs food is WONDERFUL for them..GREAT for the digestion..hair balls..urinary tract..constipation..diarrhea, etc.

we've been doing it for awhile
& Autumn(licious) swears by it. : D

It's true. I take a spoonful daily and haven't coughed up a hairball in months.

Thanks for the tip on the 'spoonfull a day'. We definitely have our share of hairball-itis. Already picking pumpkins and pulling them into the cooler house. Only thing is, most of them are vanilla/yellow in color due to a squash in the mix a couple of years ago!

oh & if the pumpkin is too thick or cold
(from being stored in the fridge) just add some Warm water, it really makes mixing easy & even..plus..kitties like some warmth in their food.<3
