I've been telling my bosses I need 2 weeks off from the 20th of October onward for the last 10 years. Somehow it's always worked.

My supervisor already knows Halloween is my holiday, and he already knows I will be off the day before and day of.

Took from Wednesday to Monday for setup, final tweaking and recovery. Plus setting it up in Erie county two hours from where I live. Transportation is becoming fun...

I've been lucky too with getting time off on the 30th to the 2nd.

Way back in my retail days I always saved my two weeks vacation for the first week and the last week of October.

Yeah, I never work on Halloween. I've quit jobs just to have Halloween off. Stupid, maybe, but it's my Holy Day.

For years I worked a news media-related job where we were staffed round-the-clock. It was pretty well understood that I didn't work on Halloween, and that in return I'd generally cover someone else's Thanksgiving or Christmas. Worked out pretty well.

Ha! At work, there are 9 of us competing for vacation. The first pick goes to the person with the most seniority and on down the line. While they all fought for Thanksgiving and Christmas, I had Halloween all to myself.
