Businessman Elijah Bond had the idea to patent a
planchette sold with a board on which the alphabet was printed, much like the
previously existing talking boards. The patentees filed on May 28, 1890 for
patent protection and thus are credited with the invention of the Ouija board.
Issue date on the patent was February 10, 1891. They received U.S. Patent
446,054. Ghosts and the Devil quickly
learned the Ouija board opened easy-to-pass-through portals.

that skeleton-in-front-of-the-cornstalk-behind-the-jacko is so iconic.
Such a classic design/arrangement.
Bravo to this guy.
I have been looking for a "unique" but not TOO expensive Ouija board to frame and hang on the wall in my room. I don't want the usual ones that come out of the stores. I need something that is very different than most.
Anyone have any suggestions???
this is sucha Classic!!!! i love seein the Ouija gettin some Halloween love, especially with it being such an Americana classic. not talking about anything else, not about using one etc, just purely from a historic angle. Ouijas are so beautiful. so many different faces to choose from. some are plain, basic beauties & others wear the makeup of exotic lands.
Jay...i have a small collection of old boards i found on ebay & etsy. i got really lucky & was able to snag them really inexpensively. honestly, old boards are really hard to find without paying thru the nose for them. you just have to constantly keep your eye out & pounce at the right time.
you should just make one, especially since you obviously have experience in creating for your haunts etc. you can pick the exact type of wood you desire, along with size. you can also select your favourite stain colour etc, but, most importantly you can pick your "theme". there are stencils you can purchase that pretty much do everything for you by just laying it over the board. i think free hand is so much nicer tho. & of course, you can always check out flea markets too.
pumpkinrot - thanks SO much for featuring me once again on your amazing blog!...i'm a huge fan & i'm absolutely honored!...if anyone would like to check out the moving/lighted version of the board above (that i created from scratch as part of my 2016 yard haunt), please feel free to check out my youtube channel...the channel name is "nynekats"...thanks so much again, rot...much appreciated!!!...heath cole.
