A scene from Prince of Darkness that always unnerved me. I love exposition scenes in films where someone is postulating/guessing and you know it's the writer telling you that this pretty much IS what's going on in the film. And this was always one of the more horrifying notions in a horror film (or any film). Like they tackled the GOD thing. And it's terrifying.

Oh wow--that's a seriously impressive scene! I've never seen the movie itself...is the whole thing as good as that clip? If so, I need to watch it a.s.a.p.! What an extremely cool concept.
For me, the movie gets less interesting at the end when "hell breaks loose"...but the resolution and all of the concepts in the film make this SO worth watching. It's literally a movie I think about all the time...well, the concepts presented in it. And there's a dream sequence that is unlike anything I've ever seen in a film...
just crazy concepts...and very intelligent. The opening sequence is also extremely cool.
This is a pretty decent movie, has its good parts and bad.
I like to sit and listen to science and religion fight back and forth, both make excellent points. But can definitely make you sit and think, what is the absolute truth.
I know one thing for sure, something influences us to do what we do at times.
THIS movie. takes SO much flack. i LOVE it tho.
you know JC DON'T like authority. i guess it's obvious in ALL of his films. he's a big fan of the science camp & admits he had a lotta trouble trying to convey certain elements in this film. so, he just kinda went with it & threw it out there the best he could..AND i think he did a wonderful job. that imagination of his.<333
JC digs that movie the Sentinel & that's his little homage to it with the priest dying in the opening of Prince of Darkness. i gotta admit i LOVE that film too. just the thought of it..a guardian at the gate, passin on his charge & what could happen. brrrrr & gahhhhhh.
& those dream sequences!!!! JC achieved those by shooting them on video & then filming them off of a TV. VERY Cool look i think.
i'm not really too scared about good versus evil. neither is technically right nor wrong. they're kinda like opinions..like what colour do you prefer sorta thing? good/evil only exist because we have free will. it's not intense like the whole love/hate thing. it's easy to think hate is the opposite of love, but, it's not. indifference is the opposite of love. see what i mean.
i don't trust most priests/nuns. i do have a few faves tho. like Bishop Robert Barren..super cool human being first & foremost. he says, the battle between good & evil has been fought. good won & we're just mopping up the bits of leftover crap (evil) from the fight. lucifer got knocked down hard during that fight. imagine
how great that fall was/is for him. he's still falling (yep, right now & always will) & he kinda reaches out to steady himself & sometimes grabs things along the way & takes them with him. he's SO petty. can't help himself. think about if he wasn't petty tho..the REAL damage he could do. BUT....he is & that will always be his biggest downfall...being a little bitch. his nature doesn't allow for change.
Nice. Yes, this is very underrated one for Carpenter. It really tried to do something very different than his other work and it suffered for it, which is a shame. It has some really, really neat concepts and plays with "horror" in a very smart way. Not every scene is great and there's some really bad acting, but overall this really is a gem that deserves more love.
AND...i Forgot Alice Cooopppper!!!
HAHAHAHHAHAHA!!! So Cool.
i think those homeless peeps just all needed..a Halloween mask & a sandwich. : D
HAHA..that joke is timeless!
But seriously...i get it's a sensitive issue, but how haven't homeless people been more utilized in horror films. I mean, it'd be the perfect cover for a pack of vampires...
HAHAHAHAAHAHAHAHA!!!! a gang of Vamps!!!! <3
you're right tho it is a very sensitive & sad subject. i live in the center of the city. i see it 24-7. i do try & help tho. when we did xmas pollyanna at work..i suggested we all donate the money to MANNA instead & the Pres of the company was good with that so that's we did for a few yrs until our branch moved. sometimes C & i will buy food for them when they ask. i NEVER give them money directly tho.
& Star Man is one of the MOST Beautiful movies of ALL time.
that deer scene....ugghhhh. Lovely.
I agree. Star Man is INCREDIBLE.
As is the directing in CHRISTINE.
Solid film making.
OMG...& Christine. The BEST.
that is one thrilllllling movie.
Oh & another thing i forgot to mention.
since you're a big fan of Prince of Darkness...you probably know all about that BBC science fiction show Quatermass from the late 70's. if not, check it out. JC is also a fan & has said that he draws from that well of love.
The writing credit is to a faux Quartermass or something, right?
i think the original was the 50's.
yeah...he used that name as a homage on Prince of Darkness.
"I've got a message for you... and you're not going to like it!" The first time I saw this, I thought it was pretty bad -- not up to Carpenter standards. Then I watched it again. And again. Now I love it! And one of my favorite Carpenter soundtracks.
