The Grand High Witch from The Witches is pretty gross. Have you seen that movie? Quite a gem, that one. I think I'll go with that as my number 1 from the article on the basis of it being a children's movie and having a scary ass witch in it.

Meg Mucklebones isn't a witch though. Scary, yes indeed, but she's a really more of a evil water spirit. It's an old English thing, to scare the little ones from playing at the water's edge...

and after reading a second time, I'd say the Witch in the woods, just for the scene in which she makes the flying ointment. That still gives me the willies...

i've been thinking about this. & it's a REAL toughie. Rosemary's Baby is my favourite movie of all time i think, but, i don't want to get that confused with scariest witch(es). the Castevets are ultra dangerous/deadly tho. especially that Minnie!!! hahaha. cause..i just wanna listen to her talk alllllllll day. hey..maybe that does make her & Roman the scariest then. idk.
but..i guess i'm gonna go with Helena Markos from Suspiria. cause dag man..that chick has got that house on supreme lockdown!!! & ain't nobody gettin out!!!<333
honourable mention to..margaret morgan from Lords of Salem. those witches look so filthy & earthy. you can totally small em thru the screen. they remind me of the witches Goya painted. plus..eating babies is always super duper deluxe scary.
disappointed tho NOT to see the witch Muriel..from Hansel & Gretel Witch Hunters portrayed by the beautiful Famke Janssen. i dug her a lot. & that movie is brilliant with Hansel growing up becoming diabetic. they wanted Gretel to be anorexic..but, they thought it might be a bit too much so they kinda left it alone.
