Had to take my new Blood Moon cocktail for a test spin before tomorrow's eclipse (most likely hidden by clouds). I think it's a success:
2 ounces (4 tablespoons) rye whiskey
1 ounce (2 tablespoons) Averna
1 dash plum bitters
1 giant pulpy orange juice and Angostura bitters ice ball

It sounds perfect, and the plum bitters has definitely piqued my interest here.
As for pouring fat measures...how anyone could resist a heavy hand where whiskey is involved is a mystery, and I have difficulty seeing how it could lead to a better drink.
Plum bitters are really unique. Had something at the extinct bar The Blue Comet with plum bitters in it and knew I had to buy some.
