Oh I remember this....maybe a little TOO well. I seem to remember Robert Englund lamenting over having to be the 'good' alien. Boy did he make up for that. Wasn't lead lizard lady called 'Diana'?
I'm not sure how much impact / influence 'V' directly has on those that weren't watching at the time, and suspect it might seem pretty dated to anyone being introduced to it now.
But I do maintain that everyone owes a big debt to it for showing what was possible on television, and ultimately significantly contributing to the abundance of high-quality sci-fi and horror that is now available on-demand (and taken for granted).

I loved that show as a kid! It was groundbreaking at the time.
