The Mummy

Weekend viewing of this old one from 1932.  Shamefully, never saw it before and was amazed that the scene below was the only appearance of Boris Karloff as the "traditional" mummy.  I don't think this fact would have pleased me very much as a ten-year-old kid watching a horror film called "The Mummy," but it really worked for this movie.

An all time classic. As a kid, I loved these movies.

I love all of the Universal Monster movies to one degree or another, but The Mummy is right at the very top. (on any given day, I might move 'Bride of Frankenstein' in front of it, or just behind, but I digress...)

It's very much an 'atmosphere' approach to early horror that sets it apart a bit, and while I'd imagine that I'm very much in the minority, I actually think of that performance before 'Frankenstein' when Karloff comes up.

When we consider that we're not very far away from that movie reaching the century mark, it's held up wonderfully well!

After seeing this post, I had to look it up on YouTube and watch it last night. Thanks, Rot, for reminding us of this classic.
