Back in 2003, the Halloween display was ready to go and we were standing around waiting for nightfall. The sun was setting and the clouds started to turn pinkish blue. I ran and grabbed the camera and took a photo. A tradition was born. Every year I try to get a shot that includes the back of that year's scarecrow(s) and the setting Halloween sun.
It's also a neat way to document the weather. May we NEVER have rain on Halloween again.

Yeah, dusk is the best time on Halloween.
Golden, rosy sky, a swollen orange harvest moon on the rise.
The yard is redolent of charring pumpkin and rendered paraffin wax.
I've always loved these photos. It really captures the sense of the beginning of the evening. It's the start of the story.
That's a neat way of putting it.
It's always a sign that soon clusters of kids will be approaching.
yeah, very soon the creatures of the night will come alive--those (props) who have been crucified will come down and mingle amongst us...if only for a night...very spectral and mysterious photos!
AMEN, brother!
The photo from this year has a great gloomy look to it.... but damn the rain.
Those are amazing shots, and a very neat tradition.
