Banana spiders are like the devil to me.
This guy's banana abdomen is a little over 12 inches long.
I'll be boxing him up and shipping him to the Davis house this week.
He's going solo - my smaller spider just wasn't doing it for me, so I scooped him up on a napkin and let him out into the yard.
The tips of his legs are made to fold inward (bendable wire).
So I can squeeze him into the box.

Banana spiders...you couldn't have picked a better species to Rot-ify. I'm really drawn to the blending of anatomical detail with your signature dark, stylized aesthetic.
I'd love to see the head and mandibles a little better.
Thanks.
I had him kinda smooth at first, but then wanted to kinda make him look like he's been around for a very long time.
I'll take some more shots later of his fangs and eyes. And I'll measure him from tooth to tail..and leg to leg.
Awesome rot-spider. And to think, you are giving him away! You should do another to keep and glue a bunch of creepy little babies on her thorax:) ~Randy
That is by far the creepiest spider prop I have EVER seen and it's sure to give the Frog Queen nightmares! Maybe you should send it to me instead? :D
excellent specimen... Chris I feel your pain already...
Wow. Great work as always, man. The first prop of yours I'll be able to see up close and in person. I'll be sure and tell Chris to pay no attention to the large(er) lump under my shirt when I leave.
Thanks!
Love it! This tree's going to be awesome!
Ech...banana spiders are particularly gross aren't they? He look great! Very realistic, which makes him uber creepy!
Freak'in creepy. I'm sure she will love you for it!
Excellent work rot! I wasn't sure if you could pull it off, but you centainly have. Most spiders look too cartoony or fake, but this is REALLY SCARY! loving the sicky cream color.
I'd love to see Chris jump back with a little willies shiver when she opens the box. That's an awesome spider. I really like the natural way the legs seem to be growing out of the body. You should think about making another and setting it someplace that people walk past on occasion and photographing their reactions from across the street. Imagine walking down the sidewalk, or sitting on a bench, lost in thought and catching that out of the corner of your eye.
just as cool as I thought it would be!
Thanks for this unpleasant reminder of doing laundry in my parents' basement.
Seriously, great job.
I need to go take a shower.
Great work. If you don't mind sharing a trade secret, what did you use for the eyes? They are especially creepy. I can just imagine multiple reflections flashing across the black little orbs for a second before the spider pounces.
The eyes are tiny wooden craft balls from Michael's.
Two different sizes.
I painted them black and then put a satin finish on them.
I sprayed him with silicone sealer for waterproofing, though I have a feeling at the end of the season, he'll look like a squid with all of his legs hanging straight down. I usually fortify the understructure for rain, but I'm not used to making eight thin legs : )
I thought it was real in the first picture! Nice work!
Looks great! I'm going with the Wolf Spider.
(thud)
(rubs bump on head)
What happened? Where was I? Oh...yeah....
That has to be the scariest thing that you have ever created...and I think it looks marvelous at your house....in fact, it looks so good there, you should keep it.
Really, I will be fine without it. :)
Thanks Rot, looks amazing and terrifying.
Cheers!
: D
Glad you're ok.
And glad you dig him.
THAT is awesome! If I didn't have my own flaming phobia of spiders, I'd want one.
so creeeepy looking!!
