I just keep telling myself that a remake/prequel won't ever take anything away from the original.
I worship the 1982 film. Worship.

I would have preferred a bunch of Swedes ; ) running around as the original film suggested.

The CG effects are going to be everywhere... and I think the insect-legged corpse on the table looks horrible. I'm shocked that the prop from the original film looks so amazing compared to this version. Speaks volumes about Carpenter and Rob Bottin and Dean Cundey.

A true classic.

Oh good, they have a hot, ass-kicking, woman scientist heroine.

Well....I was actually expecting the trailer to make me really mad, but I am about 50/50 right now. At lest the trailer was not packed full of CGI. They have obviously already tweak the story at the beginning of the movie.

They will screw it up, because they won't be able to match or beat the first. This will only drag the other one down.

Why fix what isn't broke?

To make a profit.

...and Rot, as Doc would say, they're Norwegian, not Swedish.

I did read an interview with the director where he mentioned that CGI was only being used for specific effects that truly called for it (making transformations smoother, etc) and that a large portion of the effects would be practical. In general, I got the impression that the guys behind this realized how high the bar was set, and also that this film is meant to pay homage and bring the franchise to a new audience, rather than "fixing" or "beating" the first.

As I said, I'm cautious, but this interview reassured me a bit. The guy is clearly passionate about the original movie and the genre, so I'll reserve judgment until I see it myself.

I'll watch the prequel but I know it will not come close to touching JC's original. IMO, Carpenter's The Thing is a PERFECT film. Period.

NO WAY it can even TOUCH the original.
But I'll see it.
On opening weekend. :)
