This guy almost made it to Halloween.
He sat around waiting all those months.
Then the mold spot arrived.
So I carved him.

The seeds and guts were all tan and dried out..

WOW, he made it that long? Incredible.
We bought him a week before Halloween and figured he'd only last a couple of months. But he stayed firm and fresh until a few days ago. Dang it.
There are alot of rabbits and chipmunks in our neighborhood. Any neighbors with gardens have elaborate fences going high and deep. We might still give it a try next spring and grow a small patch in the corner of the backyard..under the big cauldron.
As far as carving technique...I just used a dull kitchen knife. And I never draw the face first.
And I go with the flow.

I am heading to Myrtle Beach S.C. next weekend and there is a shop that sells Dark Candles, so hopefully they have what I usually get and I can get them there so I don't have to wait for them to ship....
That there is a pumpkin blessed with long life. Impressive.
Yeah, he's going out in the yard today. He seems to be rotting at an accelerated rate.
It's too bad that pumpkins don't petrify like small gourds..I guess the skin's too thick...all that moisture.

did you know if you paint a pumpkin like every last inch of it even the stem, it will last for years! seriusly I had one that was almost three years old that ended up getting carved and sacraficed to the jack-o-gods that halloween.
