Halloween, 1921
Photos probably won't be coming til a couple days from now, but here's a look at how it all ended up.
We're exhausted. These hurting joints seem to be an annual tradition. Super pleased with the end result.
The wind has finally died down and it looks like it's going to be a perfect Halloween.
Again, wishing you guys the absolute best and happiest Halloween!

HH!
Happy Halloween, my love.
I'm floored... the scope and execution of this is truly beyond anything I had pictured. So much to process in one image... and I don't even recognise this as your porch.
All I can say now is absolutely stellar work... I'll save the rest of my words for the full photoset.
And the Happiest of Halloweens to you and Bean. Your work has paid off in spades.
Wow! This looks like a film set for a period piece. Very, very believable within it's concept. What's most remarkable to me is how I feel like I've never seen this space before...it's completely transformed!
Very, very cool idea, excellently executed! Happy Halloween!
Happy Halloween!!
Looks great! Love the Pumpkin Lights in the Background - Cant Wait to see the rest of the Photos. Enjoy and Day - Happy Halloween.
Thanks, all!
Waiting for the sun to rise here to get the day shots... then it's just finessing and getting the house ready for visitors. And lighting a fire. It's going to be cold tonight : )
Wow, so many things to comment on but for now -- the clothesline. The first thing that comes to mind is vintage. What a soft touch.
Hope you have a great Samhain.
Absolutely glorious! Those witches!!!! The faces are the best!
Happy happy Halloween!!
Absolutely love seeing your haunt every year! Can't wait for all the pictures! Happy Halloween to you guys!
I can feel the old time Halloween already.
CAN’T WAIT.
Love it. Happy Halloween you guys.
Wow! Wonderful! It definitely feels like 1921! Even the laundry hanging on the clothesline in the background is a great touch. That would totally be something you would see in an old photograph. Can't wait for more!
Happy Halloween, Bean and Rot!
Very cool - can't wait to see more at the end of the week. Have a wonderful, wacky Halloween.
Happy Halloween, Rot & Bean!! May the Candy Corn Gods look upon us all with favorable, dry weather and hordes of trick-or-treaters for a perfect night of celebration!!
Happy Halloween Rot and Bean! As always, a great year of posts and Halloween Fun!
Happy, happy Hallowe'en to you and Bean, two of my biggest inspirations in the Hallowe'en field!
Love your work, and love you both! May your fog lie low tonight!
Looks great! 🎃 Happy Halloween! 🎃
Perfectly Channeled.
the hanging wash!!!!!...SO poetic & universal.
a beautiful capturing of a Roaring 20's Halloween.<333
P.S..here's a poem Michelangelo wrote describing his pains of working on the Sistine Chapel ceiling. thought i would pass it on for him. achy joints & such....
I've grown a goitre by dwelling in this den–
As cats from stagnant streams in Lombardy,
Or in what other land they hap to be–
Which drives the belly close beneath the chin:
My beard turns up to heaven; my nape falls in,
Fixed on my spine: my breast-bone visibly
Grows like a harp: a rich embroidery
Bedews my face from brush-drops thick and thin.
My loins into my paunch like levers grind:
My buttock like a crupper bears my weight;
My feet unguided wander to and fro;
In front my skin grows loose and long; behind,
By bending it becomes more taut and strait;
Crosswise I strain me like a Syrian bow:
Whence false and quaint, I know,
Must be the fruit of squinting brain and eye;
For ill can aim the gun that bends awry.
Come then, Giovanni, try
To succour my dead pictures and my fame;
Since foul I fare and painting is my shame.
Happy Halloween to the Father of the Season! You rock!
Absolutely beautiful, Rot! So much detail everywhere....I love the composition if this whole set. Perfecto!!!
What an amazingly vintage scene! You have managed to boil the look down to its simplest parts. It's magic! Happy Halloween Rot and Bean.
Oh & Happy Halloweeeen!!!
Have a lovely time at your 1920's soiree tonight with your lady & friends!!!
Happy Halloween!
Happy Halloween Rot! I'm so looking forward to the photos of your haunt, always such an inspiration!
Can't wait to see the photos.
HAPPY HALLOWEEN!!!!
So good. Can’t wait to see the final pics. Happy Halloween everyone!
The atmosphere and textures are fabulous! Fingers and eyeballs crossed for good weather. Happy Halloween.
Have a fabulous and happy Halloween Mr.Rot and everyone else! :D
Had a great night visiting a local haunted house in the woods, and walking around a neighborhood in the old part of town, seeing kids trick or treating and some pretty cool decorated houses. A good night, and a nice break this year from doing the haunt. Looking forward to the rest of the pictures!
Hope you and everyone else had an amazing Halloween!
Love the vintage look of the photo. Last night was really a perfect Halloween night. :)
Thanks for your continuing inspiration! Halloween in California was great, though our neighborhood kid turnout was reduced by the blasted World Series. I'm sponsoring a Constitutional Amendment that the World Series cannot be played on Halloween.
I'm really curious about the lit hanging pieces - paint cans? Coffee cans? I'm especially curious as to how they are lit. I've enjoyed this blog for many years.
Those are old coffee cans, mostly...smaller ones are beans. I aged them up with orange and brown paint and coffee grounds in the mix.... the eyes were cut using a box cutter. They're lit with real tea lights... the Anise and Clove ones I'm always pushing on the site. People seemed to love the rusty cans
I feel like such a pansy...I had a bunch of real rusted cans I'd saved for just such a thing and had them out in September, trying to decide whether to figure out a way to safely cut them, or freeze water inside of them and use a drill. I just tossed them. Such a wimp I am.
I’d be curious to hear how you cut them, Rot. With the box cutter. Special gloves? Because I had several stitches back in 2009 after a tin can incident. I now fear them.
well, you see, that would have been smart to wear gloves.
I risked it and nearly sliced myself a dozen times....
But newer cans are much thinner than old ones... I had to buy a few cans of crappy coffee for this project.
Details..always the best details. Looking forward to seeing your photos as I do every year... PS ~ aching joints suck....
Looks amazing so far!!! I simply cannot WAIT to see the rest of the photos. I hope you had a wonderful Halloween!!!
I LOVE ~ LOVE ~ LOVE those tin cans jackos - WELL... I LOVE EVERYTHING!! So wonderfully vintage, natural & unique!!
