Leatherface Dies Tonight

The "new" Texas Chainsaw Massacre is coming to Netflix this month.  Not even really sure what I just watched below.  I'll leave some comments as not to soil/sway your opinions prematurely (though I think I just let you know what I thought of it [but not totally]).

Actually, I can't say this feels as offensive and abusive as HALLOWEEN KILLS. I knew after seeing HALLOWEEN 2018 that KILLS was going to be another cash grab that didn't care about what Halloween fans thought. And they didn't really care much about giving us a story or characters we cared about. Just wanted our money. And they got it.

This new TCM seems low-budget and throw-away, and they are totally doing (ripping off) their own revenge-drunk Laurie Strode thing with Sally coming back to hunt Leatherface. But at least the trailer feels somewhat fun. Like it'll be a good time, even if we'll all forget it in a month (though I'm not sure what I'm talking about since I don't even have Netflix).

Here's hoping it's not putrid like the two recent HALLOWEEN films.

Though I hear John Larroquette is doing the intro narration again. So that's pretty cool.

Not really crazy about the new Leatherface mask. And did they even call him Leatherface in any of the films? It's been a while.

And this film has more CGI than a Marvel movie.

All I know is that of all of the killers of slasher movies, or horror movies, leatherface definitely induces dread in me. There’s that one clip in the trailer which, spoiler alert, he throws whatever he has in his hand down at the victim? I think that is truly how leatherface would act. Like I’m impressed that leather face seems to be the same and hasn’t been distorted in anyway. His mask is whatever but honestly there’s only so many ways to do a human face mask? The comment at the end again spoiler alert, about him being canceled made me laugh, even though we all know they’re gonna die. This definitely feels like an early 2000s horror movie. Which I’m not completely against. It definitely looks low budget. I would be lying if I said I wasn’t going to watch it. I have Netflix, so I’ll probably check it out.
Leatherface dies tonight! Leatherface dies tonight! Leatherface dies tonight!

Hey, that is an excellent point about him being a terrifying killer/horror icon. So I agree. Like a large dangerous mental disorder with sharp weapons. And I have to say that the scene you reference was the one thing I loved most in that trailer. He so easily tosses that blade down the stairs. And he WOULD be excellent with knives and cleavers and whathaveyou. haha

and good point about it feeling like a 2000s horror. I totally can see that.

Here's hoping (that it's not anything at all whatsoever like HALLOWEEEN KILLS).

WHAT??? Don't have Netflix!!! Nowadays you've got have at least some streaming because there's nothing but trash on network TV. I don't feel like I have the required qualifications to comment since I never even saw the original CM. Slasher films freak me out. Have to say what a sad commentary it is on current culture when everyone on the bus pulls out the cell phones....and hey....isn't that whole bus thing a rip off from Jeepers Creepers??

Good point about the Jeepers Creepers 2 reference.

Oh, I don't even have cable at this point.
I have amazon and that's it!

I will definitely check it out. I like what they’ve done with Mike Flanagan, and Archive 81 is really creeping me out. Love an older woman as the vigilante hero!

You had to say moist, huh?

haha
i hate that word SO much.

I think you’re good with just Amazon. I have been seriously craving something good on all services lately. But I am always catching myself scrolling and passing on alot. And I think that a lot of films cross over to another platforms. So if your patient like me , eventually a movie will float your way. I’ll check it out to for giggles though.

Wow fifty years! So assuming he was like 20 when he started this now he is 70? A seventy year old serial killer? So when he returns in another 20 will he be like 90?

Rot said...

he will indeed be 90.

Yeah, I have a hard time embracing elder horror icons.

I didn't think they could make a worse entry than "Texas Chainsaw 3D", but I'll be damned, it looks like they did.

Rot said...

haha quite possibly!

Too bad they didn't film it in the original locations. Would be cool to see how everything changed with growth. Austin and the surrounding areas are definitely different.

that would be pretty cool.

So like it might be believable if 70+ year old Leatherface was terrorizing a nursing home. But those teenagers could definitely outrun him. It doesn't look like he takes very good care of himself either so he's probably diabetic and has heart disease. A small percentage of men over 65 commit murder and out of those, most kill their wives. And I know slasher films are not supposed to be 100% believable i.e. Freddy Kruger, but wasn't Texas chain saw based on a real human?

True about his apparent poor health. I can't suspend my intellect this much unless he is supernatural in some way.
