R.J. MacReady's Drinking Glass

When you've seen John Carpenter's THE THING a thousand times, you notice little things.  Oddly, one of those things was MacReady's scotch glass when he was playing a game of computer chess (before destroying the fictional chess computer by pouring his drink into a convenient panel for sore losers).  That glass became something of a thrift store Holy Grail and I'd find myself walking the shelves of old glassware hoping to stumble upon something similar, if not the actual style and design.

Last weekend we visited a large Salvation Army store, and as I did the usual stroll, I stopped in front of four glasses.  Were they the ones?  At $0.99 a piece, they became the ones.  We even ran out and got some "rare" bottom shelf scotch to celebrate.

Cheers, MacReady!

EPIC find, the similarity is incredible...from an era before widely-distributed cheap-o knockoff design instantly available on digital platforms, it seems like it almost has to be the same line, no?

Congratulations, and cheers indeed!
