A haunt and Halloween enthusiast, Miorana's display this year has the typical skeletons, ghouls and gravestones in his yard, accompanied by some more controversial components, namely Satan holding the bloody severed head of a crucified Jesus surrounded by more gory, crucified figurines dressed as nuns and priests.

Maybe I'm getting old, but for the record I don't think something like this has a place on Halloween night. Sure, I'm certain people can find something offensive in almost any element of a standard home haunt, but this feels pretty antagonistic for the sake of being antagonistic. And I'm a guy who did a CHURCH display in 2018... I think he could have conveyed the same mood had he left Jesus out of the lineup. Spooky cloaked figures... The Devil being conjured to a Black Mass... dark shadows and gore. It all would work.
Eh, maybe I AM just getting old.
I, too, am...well, vintage, and am having a similar negative reaction, but I'm not sure it’s age related.
I feel as though I would have perceived this as deliberately hostile and out of line even when I was a too-cool-for-school edgy teenager who spent every spare moment drawing Pushead-inspired skulls and related dark imagery on every available surface.
Some things really are just crude and boorish, and I’d say this qualifies.
(on a related note, as crass as I find the display, I feel like his feigned surprise at the negative responses he’s received is nearly as distasteful)
Yeah, I totally agree about that. At least acknowledge that you know you’re ruffling some feathers.
Now, this display did take some time and effort, but I do agree that they could have taken some steps to not cross that imaginary line to offend. Am I offended, no, but are there people that could have been, yes. It's a wild world we live in now a day, and some people just want the attention at any cost.
I think that if people think it's offensive or distasteful then don't look at it, it's that simple. I've had nothing but contempt and hatred toward organized religion for decades, so I actually like what he did. I tried to include a few Satanic and occult details in my home haunts, and was planning on going all out in 2015 after not getting enough of a reaction in my haunt in 2014.
Unfortunately I never got the chance to do that because we ended up selling our house in the Summer of '15, 2014 was my last home haunt. I've since had to give away 90% of my Halloween stuff since I'll never get the chance to haunt our own place again.
