An exceptional soundtrack by Brandon Dalo.
Was driving around last night listening to this score. Crazy good. An entirely different animal played outside of the documentary. Highly listenable on its own. And truly creepy.
As two old school soundtrack collectors, I was just telling my brother that I haven't been this excited about a soundtrack release in a very long time.

Now Playing: Halloween IV
Fantastic score by John Carpenter's co-composer Alan Howarth, who proves he's quite the musical force with his own voice. The first track is brilliant in that the familiar and expected Carpenter Halloween motif is missing until the tail end of the piece. I recall reading an interview with Howarth where he described his intro music as needing wind-like ghostly sounds for the slow creepy main credits. And it works like a dream.

Now Playing: Oxana
By ambient group Igneous Flame.
I once made the mistake of playing one of my ambient discs in the car when I was driving my father somewhere when his car was in the shop. The first track came on and he started squirming and appeared to be straining to hear something. After a minute he asked "What the Hell IS that?" I answered "It's my music." He replied "Music? I thought something was wrong with your brakes."

Now Playing: Elegies For The End [Samples]
Ordered this cd last night - Elegies for the End by Svartsinn. Cyclic Law has been a great source of dark ambient for my collection (Kammarheit, Sinke Dus, Northhaunt). And their customer service is absolutely fantastic.

Now Playing: Halloween II [Samples]
Going to be ordering this today. I own the original release on cd, but it's one of those cds from a time when not all cds were engineered equally - this one needed to be cranked way up.
From BuySountrax.com:
For this special 30th Anniversary Edition of HALLOWEEN II, the original 1981 album presentation is included, newly remastered. In addition, a special suite of seven tracks has been prepared, consisting of the entire film score sequenced in chronological order and including previously unreleased music. In addition, Alan Howarth has contributed exclusive notes for the booklet.

Now Playing: Autumn
By George Winston.
Had the pleasure of seeing this man perform live once in Princeton, New Jersey. He made a few of these tracks much darker than the album versions. Occasionally he would reach into the piano and alter the notes by manipulating the piano strings. Very neat effect.

Now Playing: Cities In Fog
An old favorite in my library of dark ambient drone.
The track Among Icebergs always reminds me of the "electronic realization" music in Carpenter's THE FOG (music when they first show Blake and his men [not on the score release]).

Now Playing: Something Wicked This Way Comes
Playing the soundclips, that is.
I've been waiting for an official release of this score for quite some time. I managed to get a copy back when Napster was free and loaded with bootlegged gems.
Just ordered this one this morning.

Now Playing: Badlands
A band featured on all the [incredible] Halloween At High Noon albums, here's the latest from The Divine Sham called Badlands. Makes me crave the fourth Halloween volume.
"...like smoking a backwoods cigar and lighting dynamite wicks with it."

Now Playing: ALIENS
The score for James Cameron's ALIENS is incredibly dark and sinister and some of these tracks would be perfect for a dark walk-through haunt, specifically Bad Dreams, Dark Discovery, Sub-Level 3, Complex and Queen. This powerhouse score by composer James Horner also contains some of the most exciting cues ever written for film (in my opinion).
