Effigy

I have a version of this guy in the back of my garage.  Typically, it was sold as something to be hung to blow in the wind.  I retired him years ago when my cherry tree died and had it removed (the tree, not the hangy guy), but I'm thinking of hanging him on the porch come October 1st.  Love that the head is white and not orange.

It's neat seeing him as a scarecrow and not a wind creature.

Four Days In Dixie

When night had fallen I cautiously left my place of concealment, dodged across the road into the woods and made for the river through the mile of corn. Such corn! It towered above me like a forest, shutting out all the starlight except what came from directly overhead. Many of the ears were a yard out of reach. One who has never seen an Alabama river-bottom cornfield has not exhausted nature’s surprises; nor will he know what solitude is until he explores one in a moonless night.

Beings

Dear professor Velmont:
My name is E. H. I am 45 years old, and I had a very strange experience. It happened on June 15, 2003, it was Sunday. After watching a movie  on TV, I went to sleep and after turning off the TV and the light, I felt the  presence of something or somebody in my room.  I had my eyes shut and when I opened them I saw three small beings  like humanoids. Their physical appearance had a resemblance to undernourished children in Africa, small and thin, with swollen bellies, they had a grayish  color, long and thin extremities, they had a bigger head and they didn't wear  clothes. However, I remember trying to pray in that moment, but they somehow  blocked my mind and I couldn’t pray anymore. I was paralyzed but conscious. I looked at them again and they blocked my sight as well.

Summer Camp

Did you know a young boy drowned the year before those two others were killed? The counselors weren't paying any attention... They were making love while that young boy drowned. His name was Jason. I was working the day that it happened. Preparing meals... here. I was the cook. Jason should've been watched. Every minute. He was... He wasn't a very good swimmer.
