And So It Begins

Was working in the yard last night and my neighbor's son was telling me about things like super heroes and Halloween.  And he referred to a Character Parade at his school, and I felt something inside me shift.  Like a giant dark embryo of hate (this happens a lot).  So I asked him what that was and he explained that it's not a Halloween costume contest, but rather a parade of characters (kids in Halloween costumes).  The word "Halloween" was horribly absent.  And the act of having a contest was nowhere to be seen.

As someone who never won a costume contest, and whose dreams were dashed by this fact, I still love that I had the empty hope that I MIGHT win.  I looked forward to this probable loss each year.  And that ONE time when I thought I was about to win (and they picked that rich kid next to me), well, that half second of Joy was amazing (I think the Devil lives in those half seconds).

So I saw the article below and I felt that embryo shifting again.

What. The. Hell. That's absurd. "Religious beliefs", yeah right. I despise how everyone feels needs to be PC these days. It's bullsquirt. I feel bad for those kids. Damn schools.

Sigh......

Bleh. At least the kids can still make their own Halloween fun, which is the best kind.

I saw this article this morning and was, well, disappointed.

wow....glad that my kinds are way past that and just as demented as me about Halloween. Nothing to cancel anymore!

Yeah. Everyone has to be the same. Moments before clicking here I saw a story about an Ontario school did the same thing. Pathetic!
I hate this on all sides. Be it religious nuts with Halloween or anti-religious nuts with Christmas. The control freaks don't care they just want sameness across the board.
A bag of jellybeans may look diverse on the surface, but they are still all jellybeans. There is no diversity of thought allowed.

Pardon my ranting. This is a particularly high horse I climb on from time to time. :-)

I felt a pang of anger when I saw the sign at the Baptist church two streets from us, than I thought "I bet I get a lot of those kids attention on their way to the church", then I smiled.

Insane.

I agree with HalloweenNut. SO tired of the PC crap. The township I live in changed the name of things to like "Fall Dance" or "Holiday Parade" in the school.

I can't stand PC people. If I offend people with what I do, then I get a BIG smile on my face.
Then I do it even more.

progressive liberals are slowly winning...."Puke!!"

To me, it is less of a dark embryo and more of a "Let loose the Kraken!" reaction. I get so angry about this kind of crap.

Damnit, well then. If I had a kid that went there I'd send him with a pentagram shirt and an upside down cross painted on his forehead just to spite these idiots

So I'm confused...the second time the embryo shifted was that to a darker, angrier place or just sort of stretching...

At my son's elementary school down here in Balto. Co., the administration likes to use the title "Fall Parade"!?! What a bunch of crap that certain individuals of a predominate population, have to be sensitive to a growing small number of foreign invaders who want to eradicate an old standing American tradition that is based on old fashioned childhood.
HALLOWEEN has played a major role, growing up as a child, creating fond memories that I can now pass down to my own.
I hope our school district doesn't do the same as Philly!

UGH. This news sickens me. >_<
But I have to say that I loved the line "Like a giant dark embryo of hate (this happens a lot)." Great stuff!

@lol punkinstein, hilarious. Dark embryos aside, sigh. That stuff hasn't happened here yet thank God.

A friend's kid was sent home last year for wearing a Halloween costume to school on Halloween.
I told him that this year, he should go as a zombie on a chain and have his daughter lead him around all day. She's not the one wearing the costume, right?

Omg...you got to be kidding me?!?!?!?! We have now successfully created a society of people that feel that they're every feeling needs to be taken into consideration. How do you do that? How do you make everyone happy all of the time? The answer is you can't. So why bother. People need to grow a thicker skin and let people celebrate what they want to celebrate. And hey, if you don't celebrate Halloween and don't want your kid to participate.....then you take the responsibility for it....don't make other kids suffer because you don't want to pay the consequences with your child. (Tantrums, Billy gets to dress up, why can't I........you get the idea)

I could go on and on....but I'll stop here. Grrrrrrrrrrr! Character parade my ass!

A friend was just telling me that a neighbor in her development put a notice in every mailbox on her street stating that they are "not to put out Halloween items" this year because they scare her daughter too much.
No discussion, no compromise - just the sheer self entitlement to shut it all down. The friend also added that the little girl had never appeared scared by any anything. Maybe it was entirely the mother.

Oh I would have a field day with this person.

The Creeping Cruds...Please tell me your friend is still putting decorations out...

This is so weird to me, cause in my hood, adults, parents and their kids are coming by everyday thanking me for doing a yard haunt. I had a couple of kids yesterday ask me to make them something for their yard cause they heard I was commissioned to build a prop for the next door neighbor. I'm lucky.

Another example of the slow decline into a 'dark age' in this country. A widening pervasiveness of narrow mindedness, ignorance and general inability to accept differences in beliefs, likes and dislikes in others, in short, a scary incapacity to co-exist and simply live and let live. This, and not Halloween, is what I find truly frightening.

Oops - posted under wrong name LOL
One more time - sorry..

I think they have limited the amount of stuff they are putting out this year. Lame - but they have to live there. I would go in the opposite direction and do a full-on house of horrors.

I'm lucky that my neighbors either like haunts or at least put up with it quietly. The kids on the street have named our 'Mrs. Bates' upstairs window "Spooky". Since that part is lit up all Oct I catch people making a special trip to our corner. If they look hard enough they might notice that Spooky never leaves that window all yea long..

Wow..... ballsy. Someone needs to wake up with a Johnny Appleseed type scarecrow in front of their living room window. ;-)
