Brandon Hardy's Tombstones

Posting another tutorial by this talented guy.  I detest working with foam of any kind, but he makes it look SO easy (though I'm certain it's not).

Floral foam is the lowest level of foam hell. It's worse than foamcore. I hate foam core. Cool stones though.

haha

Thanks for the heads up. Me and foam just don't get along.
Like when something ships in foam, and those tiny white balls start infecting everything like THE THING, well...

Oh man, I'm going to email you some pics of what my family refers to as The Yogibo Incident.

One tombstone would take me a month to make!

It probably seems ridiculous, but I struggle with regular ol' woodwork, meanwhile, I'm over here imagining how lost I would be without my precious sheets of Dow EPS.

It's always so interesting how people gravitate towards certain materials and work with them so naturally, while attempting to work with other stuff is somehow akin to grasping the concepts of quantum entanglement.

that's a terrific observation.
and so true.

Floral foam is absolutely the worst, but he's right that it's a great point of entry to start carving and sculpting, and I really like his interpretation of the HM tombstones. I'm not sure how they'll survive from year to year unless you hardcoat them, though. My local haunt group has been experimenting with laser cutting and etching xps insulation foam at a hackerspace, which has been a lot of fun, though the end product isn't quite as good (so far) as what a talented sculptor can do. It is a lot faster, though!
