Witch Jars

Made a trip to Michael's today. Nothing new in the Halloween aisle, but an employee told us that the truck on Friday will have more seasonal decorations. Can't wait. I saw some great mason jars being sold pretty cheap on the shelves so I bought three and made witch jars for the tree branches on Halloween night. The handles are made from thin green craft wire. I painted the inside bottom of the jars black and squirt red and brown paint on the interior sides for a soiled effect.

Remember that post a while back on Integrity?

Someone was cool enough to email me a link to a blog where my Witch Jar design was being shared as the blog owner's original design. After 23 comments from people admiring her work, I was a little surprised to see not one comment from the blogger saying something like "Thanks! I based it on a design I saw on the Pumpkinrot blog!" But nuthin. So we figured we'd post a comment saying something like "Great to see you dig my Witch Jars! Yours look great!" and we provided a link to my Witch Jar blog entry from back in July.

The comment was never posted, but a disclaimer was suddenly added at the bottom of the post:
*Please note that this craft was inspired by another blog, but for the life of me, I don't remember who's it was. If you recognize it, please let me know so I can give credit where credit is due!

Pretty shameful. And fun to call her out on it.

Jars

I have to say that it's been really cool seeing witch jars in fellow haunters' displays. I can remember standing in a Michael's Craft Store in front of a row of mason jars and one quite literally appeared in my head all dirtied-up with grime and blood - and dangling from a branch.
I imagined a witch holding a small bird over the jar with one hand while waving her other hand in a spell-like fashion before bringing it down on the creature. Splat.

Funny to think of squished dead birds and small animals around the empty farms and fields near the Corn Witch. I guess that's how you'd know you were getting close.

The Day After Halloween

Woke to find restored cable, phone, and television.  Finally catching up on everything.  Been a crazy weird week. 

Started decorating yesterday morning and then some of the neighbors let me know our township rescheduled Halloween for Friday night.  So I didn't put out any of the props, just the witch jars and the cornstalks, and I had planned to light the softening jackos. 

I have to admit to being pretty bummed about Halloween being postponed.  Something just seemed off about that decision.  So I watched old dvr'd episodes of Paranormal Witness and horror movies from the collection.   

A door bell ringing.  

Kids were trick-or-treating.  It was Halloween sunset, and they were coming.  You know those dreams a Haunter has, where you're running around trying to set up your display while kids are coming for candy?  Well, that was me.  Lighting pumpkins and witch jars, and trying to set up the fogger and position the Witches.  I tripped over a flower pot in the bushes and fell on my face...  It was hectic, but not stressful.  It was fun.  And funny.

Halloween came.  Despite the township.  Despite the stupid hurricane.

Shop Jars

I get a lot of emails requesting that I make some Witch Jars for the etsy shop. I figured I'd improve their design and make a limited run of ten. Three different sizes. Each comes with a flickering LED tea light.

They can be hung from tree branches or placed in-between jack o'lanterns on a porch.

And witches dig em.

They're nasty.
