I've never been to the Universal Studios Halloween event. Probably should do that at some point in my life.Image source.
yes, it's something i want to do at some point. i was supposed to go once. trip got canceled. :(
I've gone every year since 2001 now. Halloween Horror Nights was the ultimate Halloween event for a while, but for the past few years it's actually been kind of disappointing. In the past, Universal really seemed to be into a whole immerseive scary environment where the entire park is non-stop horror, but it seems that this has kind of stopped and it's more about them making more money on a smaller budget. The event has gotten extremely popular, so much so that it's really not possible to do all of the Halloween stuff (not counting all of the normal daytime attractions). Universal used to limit the number of people allowed into the park, so even on busy nights, you would still be able to do everything. They have seemed to stop this, so now they will keep on selling tickets until the fire marshal makes them stop. The past two years were so crowded that on a slow night, one haunted house would have a 2 hour line. With 8 haunted houses and several shows at a 7 hour long event, there really is no way to do everything anymore. Last year I bought their unlimited admission pass, so I would go once every few days and do one or two things and leave. It really was the only way that Halloween Horror Nights wasn't miserable due to the crowds...The event may not be as wonderful as it once was, but it is still something anyone that's reading this would probably love. The props are always great. The haunted houses aren't always good, but there is normally at least one that blows me away each year. Last year was the Psychoscarapy: Home for the Holidays house. They set up an entire neighborhood at Christmas in their soundstages where a bus filled with inmates from an insane asylum crashed and escaped. It was one definitely one of my favorite haunted houses I've been through. And definitely check out their website. They normally build this amazingly elaborate backstory to go with this years theme that gets added more and more too as Halloween gets closer. This year is no exception...http://www.halloweenhorrornights.com/orlando/journal.htmlI just realized I wrote WAY too much. I'll stop now...
We went there for our honeymoon in 2002 (the first year it was in Islands of Adventure) and then we went back in 2006 (same event as in these pics) and spent 3 nights to see all the haunted houses. It is really a great time, and they go all out. After going to the lame events at Great Adventure, you don't realize how awesome this stuff can be.I don't have these pics on Flikr, but here are some from the 2006 HHN:http://www.jkface.com/vacation06/hhn/hhn_1.htmhttp://www.jkface.com/vacation06/hhn/hhn_2.htm
