Native Americans And Bigfoot

An intriguing interview with anthropologist Kathy Strain, author of Giants, Cannibals, & Monsters.  I think it's very interesting to hear that most Native Americans believed Sasquatch to be a "brother" rather than a primate.  But worse - a cannibal.  In some cases, their oral history tells of warfare with Bigfoots, due to their use of Indian children as a food source.

In the years of enjoying programs about Sasquatch, I've seen many a Bigfoot hunter bring up the fact that the American Indian believed in the existence of these hairy beasts.  They do so as a "Look, I'm not a crazy person.  The Indians believe what I believe.  So are you calling American Indians crazy?"  Funny that they stop short of mentioning the cannibal part.  Cherry-picking at its finest.

Kinda makes the Finding Bigfoot episode where they used Girl Scouts as bait to attract curious child-loving beasts somewhat disturbing.

I knew that my life-long fear/hate/distrust of Bigfoot wasn't unfounded.  The American Indian backs me up on this.
You calling them crazy?

Something I've always found interesting are those old Wild Man/Whistling Woman masks carved by certain tribes in the Pacific Northwest. They typically had features that could arguably be interpreted as simian, i.e. long hair, thick brows, squashed nose, big lips etc. But I always remember seeing this picture in a book of a particularly old mask; it was striking in that it appeared to have a sagittal crest, a structure which is unique to great ape skulls, but which wouldn't be depicted in Western art until great ape physiology was better understood (gorillas having not been officially described until the mid-1800s.) Who knows whether it really was a sagittal crest, but it always struck me as a subtle and yet eerily specific feature to add.

Napoleon's brother was living in New Jersey? and saw the Jersey Devil? How did I not here this! And why is this not made into a movie yet? Kinda reminds me of the movie Brotherhood of the wolf and the beast of Gevaudan....
