Face Off

I'm very late to this party and I blame other "reality" shows for tainting my perception.  And I blame SyFy's other effects show Monster Man for chasing me off completely.

We caught a Face Off marathon a while back and I was really surprised to find a show that was nothing about back-stabbing and horrible human values.  It's just a bunch of talented makeup artists working on a weekly design challenge which gets presented to a panel of judges.  No forced drama.  No fake scripting.  And a lot of neat makeup effects.

The artists even help each other out along the way, lending a creative hand where they can, so it's kinda sad when someone loses the weekly challenge.  Though it always seems to be a legitimate, talent-based elimination.

Monsterman was the worst show ever. I am a huge Faceoff fan and I so look forward to it every week. Glad you discovered it Rot.

Lol, "Monster Man" was a loser of a series! Rated up there with "Hot Set" (What were they thinking). We have watched "Face Off" faithfully since Season 2 and love it!

Yeah, I've been watching this show since it started (two years ago?). It is pretty cool to see the talent and make-up/designs that is come up with.

One of my favorite shows. My step daughters love it too so its nice we can bond over it. The way a FX show should be, no drama or faked emergencies ( like Monster Man). Just a time clock and the pressure of being creative and dealing with makeup constructing mishaps. I remember one episode when someone was voted off and a judge told them that they would hire them in a second! Plus my wife groans when she sees Glen's hair so I chuckled at the post pic!

HA..yeah, whenever we saw him on the show we got into the habit of making him say 'Worst Makeup EVER,' like the comic book guy from the simpsons...

So Bean made a meme for this post : )

Great show. It's the Project Runway of monster makeup. Syfy would do well to pay more attention to its few hits and jettison the junk.

I love FaceOff :) Very, very cool make-up effects and really creative and talented people. Have you seen Making Monsters on Travel channel? It's pretty neat. You get to see beginning to end creation of Halloween props and all of the mistakes and problems that they encounter along the way. Plus, Ed is wacky and funny :)

LOVE Face Off! We have watched it from the beginning. Season 1 there was a bit a drama and we were worried that it was turning into the normal reality tv. The Hubby and I were both SO happy when in season 2 all of that BS was gone and it was just about the makeup.

I absolutley love seeing what the contestants come up with and how they execute their ideas in the time given.

And yes...Glenn's hair is rediculous! Although I think the fact that he ALWAYS looks SO serious is worse. DUDE....crack a smile...a joke...something!!!!

Rot...I think you guys would really like Making Monsters. Nothing like Monster Man. Again...it's awesome to see how they create their props and over come obstacles along the way.
