Space Suits And Space Jockeys

Just for the record...
There's no WAY that this creature growing out of its chair is really a giant gray humanoid in a space suit, as suggested by the film Prometheus.

Just no way.

And notice the size differential, and the proportions.

Ridley Scott is on my George Lucas Shit List.

Yeah. Looks like this photo has no neck, really long arms, and the chest extends all the way down to its legs.

Sad to say I have not seen this movie yet. Not sure if I like the idea of a "prequel" to "Aliens".

The beginning of Alien was/is one of my favorite experiences of a completely foreign cosmos, and Prometheus feels like a betrayal to that. What I don't understand is that with the current technology why aren't we getting more "strange new worlds" in our scifi?

Well the practical FX look a lot better, for one.

But I think this is a nitpick. Prometheus is still, as a horror science fiction story pretty cool.

I mean, isn't it a creepy prospect? That man is just a mistake, a sort biological catastrophe which our creators now have to clean up by wiping us out?

We're just a cosmic oil spill baby.

yeah, I dig the concept, it just should have been it's own thing. A fresh idea not wrapped in the Ridley Scott ALIEN shell.

I completely agree with you Rot. The new movie had so many holes in it. I'd rather have been forced to watch another funky sequel with the alien hybrid Ripley.

I actually walked out of Prometheus feeling embarrassed for Ridley Scott. I wanted badly for this film to work. It didn't. A mixed bag of some very cool premises and scenes thrown in for story content only which actually confused me even more. Was I supposed to read a book first?
Editing was the key to Alien (ok and seeing Giger's work for the first time) It makes one wonder what was left on the editing room floor in Prometheus. Egads to think this was the 'streamlined' version.

I hate Prometheus on so many levels for what it did to Aliens. Like a valley girl, pretty to look at on the first pass, but the longer you stick around, the dumber it seems.

Jennifer's comment about sums it up in my opinion. It doesn't make me optimistic about Scott's alleged Bladerunner sequel.

I saw it Prometheus in the theatre and I walked out soooo confused. I shouldn't have to go home and look up the movie online to try and find out what I missed or why I am confused. Mr. Calaveras and Rot said it right-a good horror/sci-fi concept. But not in the Alien universe. A true square peg in a round hole Mr. Scott!

Bladerunner sequal? Oh crap.

Yup, he's supposedly doing a Bladerunner sequel and Ford was supposedly in talks for returning (not sure where that stands as it's almost a given at this point that he's already lined up for at least one more Star Wars film). And to make matters a bit more "interesting" is that Bladerunner, the Alien trilogy (I still refuse to acknowledge the sequels beyond A3), and Prometheus are supposedly all set in the SAME universe - Ridley Scott has been dropping on hints on this like forever.

I haven't seen Prometheus yet. But I knew enough about it before it hit the big screen in order to steer clear. Bad screenwriting, bad editing, and the same Hollywood glitsy polish that not only ruined this, the Star Wars prequels, and pretty much any sort of prequel that came out in the last decade or so. Why oh why do they always make the older technology look cooler and better than the present technology. Just bad bad bad all around.

Oh, Ridley.

I've seen it and I'm not going to say I didn't appreciate the design aspect of some things, the overuse of computer effects, how "clean" everything looked left me pretty disappointed.

Didn't love the story but I could see it as a standalone if "Alien" wasn't hanging over it's head. I'm not sure the Alien story hadn't already run it's course, if anything maybe a smaller, intimate story with one in a remote human setting, a child and a mother maybe with a twist. It's been so done already, might be time to put it to bed. Bladerunner...just leave the past alone, come up with something original please.

what's Wrong with Prometheus is...
it's Exciting...the story has forward momentum...it has actual subtext, that you can think about after the movie is over...& it's Actually scary...

as for the scale of the creature in the photo..kinda knitpicky
it is a Different ship, maybe, that particular engineer is just taller, maybe at that particular moment, they were genetically engineering themselves to be bigger...it's really not that important..

to be Honest, i've Never thought Ridley Scott's early films were that amazing...i've always felt they were like Rococo art, they're very Beautiful (Ornate) but Not a lot of depth..

To quote the GREAT Tom Baker (about Alien) "Why don't you take it down to the airlock & Bore it to death"... : D

Sure Alien, Blade Runner & Legend are good films, but they're Not the Best..Just like Prometheus isn't Pants..
