Finally watched this film.
A film made for people who hate the cover of Whitley Strieber's Communion.
It was a solid film. Very non-Hollywood. And VERY scary.
The soundtrack is absolute unnerving terror.

Beneath
I'm a fan of Larry Fessenden's films so I'm looking very forward to this tale of a giant hungry lake fish. And I hear it uses practical effects for the fish. Excellent.

Dark Tales
At once, the rain stopped, snuffing her lantern. Maura’s eyes grew dead white and a scream was lost to her. Her mouth hung open as she shook uncontrollably in her chair. Her radio slammed on at full volume. All of the logs and the newspaper on the table ran off to the floor in a mess unseen in the darkness. In a quick, horrible succession behind her, the doors of her house flung open violently in the pitch black, their sound blacked out by the radio and made hellish. She was grabbed up with a horrible, invisible quickness, pulled in half like a doll through the window by the sink, and was never seen again.

Abandoned Prairie Church
For more than a hundred years
it has clenched the candle of its spire
in a hard white fist,
waiting for thunder to light the short wick
of its cross. But the clouds pass by,
leaving no more than a flash
on the cracked and dusty panes.
The fist’s weight is firm on the lid
of this rough old box of Nebraska
in which all the relics are kept,
the skulls, the sermons, the prayers,
and a scatter of buffalo nickels
from the last collection.

House Of Frog
We drove by a house today with two brick columns leading up to the front porch. On the top of each column sat a large cement-gray frog. It was a small modest house, and the frogs seemed like they should be guarding a vast old mansion with overgrown bushes and ancient trees with tired limbs.
I swear, if we ever win the lottery, our house will be out of control with things like this. I dare say bat-shit crazy.

Re-Feature: Dead Man's Bones
I heard this song was featured in The Conjuring.
Very cool. We seem to play this album every year when the air gets cooler.

Pumpkin Patch Update
Hopefully the cooler weather we're having will give these vines a chance to grow some fruit.

The only pumpkin at the moment. |
The first gourd (not sure when to harvest it). |

The Hunter
Made a "joke" today that a coworker should be Jonathan Kincaid'd. An obscure Gilligan's Island reference that required some explaining, which made me seem like a sadistic madman. Mr. Kincaid came to the island looking for exotic game, and somehow decided to hunt Gilligan (which I'm sure the rest of the crew was secretly supporting). This episode always terrified me as a kid. Pure horror.
I had to add to the end of my rant "I mean all this in a humorous fun manner."
Hilarious to find a blog featuring this episode..and similar sentiments.
