More Gnarled Branch

His tumblr here.

SKELETACTICAL

Another track by Espectrostatic.
Fun video.  I love how the robots in it have achieved superiority over organic life forms in every way (except when they use cheerleading routines to communicate).

At least I think they're robots.  Maybe they're aliens (at which point I'd retract my cheerleading joke).

And So It Begins

Was working in the yard last night and my neighbor's son was telling me about things like super heroes and Halloween.  And he referred to a Character Parade at his school, and I felt something inside me shift.  Like a giant dark embryo of hate (this happens a lot).  So I asked him what that was and he explained that it's not a Halloween costume contest, but rather a parade of characters (kids in Halloween costumes).  The word "Halloween" was horribly absent.  And the act of having a contest was nowhere to be seen.

As someone who never won a costume contest, and whose dreams were dashed by this fact, I still love that I had the empty hope that I MIGHT win.  I looked forward to this probable loss each year.  And that ONE time when I thought I was about to win (and they picked that rich kid next to me), well, that half second of Joy was amazing (I think the Devil lives in those half seconds).

So I saw the article below and I felt that embryo shifting again.

Bloggage

Busier than usual this October, so I fear the blog is suffering as a result.
Just putting that out there to explain why entries might become spotty...or boring.

A Crisp Morning

Summer Heat is to Halloween Spirit
as
Dago Bastard is to Sean Connery.

(I just know creeping Summer has something up its sleeve.)

Disturbia

Cause it's been that kind of week.
And it's only Tuesday.

The Witch Of York

Up o'er the hill and broken wall
There stole a weird form, bent but tall;
And softly through our unlatched door
She crept unbidden, and before
The hearth-fire crouching, gazed upon us all.

House Decorations

The Goon Lives

We set up the scarecrow today.
It was great to see some plastic jackos in windows and a few lawns with fake tombstones already.

Witch

O brothers mine, take care! Take care!
The great white witch rides out to-night.
Trust not your prowess nor your strength,
Your only safety lies in flight;
For in her glance there is a snare,
And in her smile there is a blight.

Sure they give too much away in the trailer, but I'm totally interested in seeing this.

Porch Lights

Screw the hot weather.
We're the first house on the street with Halloween lights.
Since it really is a contest.

Weather

October 4th:  High of 85 today.
You know what would cool this off?  A hurricane.

(That's how the Universe thinks.)

Grid War

A great scene from Tron Legacy.
I'd like to see those annoying cyclists that hog the road on weekends forced to duel to the death in light cycles.  A fitting end to those biker-short-wearing folks.

I'm deadly serious.

The Quest

A wise man once said that sometimes the quest is way more important than the treasure.  But only when the treasure is pink cereal and not treasure.  I believe Bigfoot can be swapped with 'pink cereal.'  Apparently some video surfaced with definitive proof of Sasquatch.  The footage looks like the usual stuff, but the Bigfoot Community is all over this scat, calling the presenter a liar, a fake, and a fraud (this was actually shouted at me years ago in the middle of an office [story for another time]).

This reminded me of a few years back when some guys said they had a Bigfoot corpse in an ice chest.  Turned out to be a costume stuffed with pig guts.  But some Squatcher was ranting on a Bigfoot site that he needed this to be a lie, a fake, and a fraud.  He didn't want to have the answer to the Sasquatch question.  I think he needed the quest to be never-ending.

And I get that scat.

Click the face for more information on this breaking story:
A screen capture allegedly grabbed from the infamous "Matilda" footage claims to show Bigfoot's face

And here for some more info...and a Chewbacca mask comparison.

The Goon

Believe it or not, I feel like October 2nd is still too early to put out The Goon (as it was dubbed by a small child in the neighborhood last year).

I'm thinking this coming weekend...

I'll leave him up until Halloween, and then he'll be replaced with something new for the big night.

Rue Morgue Update

Coolio.  They updated the "Current Issue" page and it mentions my interview in the Fright Gallery.

Sweet.

Unholy

Thinking out loud here.  It'd be neat to have a small angel statue in a garden.  With a light illuminating it at night.  But behind it, behind a shrub, is a powerful spotlight directed onto a small silhouette of a satanic figure, so the giant shadow being cast isn't angelic, but twisted and demonic.  Of course you'd need a side of a house for this.

And you'd need a strong foundation of faith, beings a satanic bull's-eye is now on the side of your home.
