Fireworks

Anyone else remember flipping through Fireworks Catalogs as a kid?  I feel like it'd always be one of the bad kids in school who brought in one of those things.  Shiny paper with pages and pages of colorful piles of explosives.  We'd huddle and slowly flip through.  The photos were enticing.  As you worked your way through the catalog, the piles of fireworks in each photo would grow larger and larger.  As would the prices.

Totally illegal in this state, so it made the entire experience pretty exciting.

It seems small knives and Chinese stars were always catalog favorites too.

The only photo I could find that captured the scope of what it was like.

Oh man, does this bring back memories. Where I grew up, my uncle knew a guy that would sell these out of the trunk of his car. Then on the 4th, we would have a blast setting these off.

And if you were able to buy Chinese throwing stars or knives, you were the bad ass of the neighborhood. :D

I used to have a Black Cat Fireworks poster hanging in my bedroom as a kid. Light fuse and get away.

Just Google image Black Cat Fireworks poster and you will see the logo. They used to have a ton of cool places down where my cousins lived in Myrtle Beach South Carolina. Firework Supermarkets. I bought so many fireworks one year from Blackbeards Firework Store they threw in a free Pirate Hat. Pretty good quality too. You can get a free catalog from Phantom Fireworks. Just go to their website.

As a mom of a 7yo boy, I feel this post. My son has literally been counting down the days til July 4th. They don't sell fireworks til about a week before out here, so there won't be fliers til then BUT we've already been on Red Devil's site and ordered the free catalogue, the coupons AND enrolled him in the club!!! Lol he's been taking those lame pop-it's and souping them up to try and make his own. We found a huge illegal firework container at the beach today and he was obsessed. I personally remember loving the packaging and the cool ones that you could keep, like the pagoda one that we'd save in our room til our mom threw it out. Good times. One of my brothers was really into fireworks too and would save the fliers til they fell apart.:)

Back when I was in middle school, we always used to order free catalogs from West Salem Fireworks (now Phantom Fireworks). When we would call, we would have to try and disguise our voices so that they would think we were old enough to order!

Fireworks, horror movies and mask catalogs from the back of Fangoria magazine. Sweet, sweet memories!

Some day I'll tell you about the time we blew up a public restroom sink with an H-100... :)

Funny thing is though, I couldn't stand the loud bangs and such when I was 7. I guess you can say I was a wuss.

But, after awhile, I got over it. Then my friends and cousins got the bright idea to start shooting fireworks at each other. Between 2 teams, Bottle rockets, Roman candles, etc. We even had this great set up that had a metal frame with a line of pic tubes lined up to load the rockets and candles to fire at each other.

Good times.

We did that to JS;
Bottle rocket duels. Twenty paces, light and aim!
