The Strange And Unusual Oddities Parlor

On our recent trip to visit Noir Dark Spirits, we made a stop in Kingston, Pennsylvania to check out The Strange & Unusual.  It's been open for ten years and what sets this Curious Goods shop apart from most is the presence of an amazing cafe in the front of the store - a cafe that sells spooky brews all year long, and not just during the autumn season.  If we lived closer, this would be our coffee shop.  

Before perusing the store, we ordered two Pumpkin Juice Lattes.  As the barista placed our drinks on the counter, she said "Here are your drinks...and here is a little magic!"  She waved her hand and a tiny burst of flame floated over our drinks.  In the world of Magic, that's achieved with a thin piece of "Flash Paper."  Typically, this requires ignition by a small flame.  I saw no flame, and I honestly have no idea how she ignited it.  I have chosen to believe it was magic.  Coffee magic.  And it was a perfect start to our time in that spooky store.

Chilly Morning

Temps in the 60's at the moment, going up to 81 today.  Not too shabby.  Clove incense in the garden, windchimes gabbing away, and all the windows open.  

And the garden has never been so full. 

I was never one to dig on Summer and saw it as a thing to wait through like a long drive on a bus with a broken air conditioner.  Porch sitting, gardening, a cool wind off the ocean, and the late-night sound of summer bugs high in the trees have forced me to reconsider that.  Kinda like opening a window on that bus and realizing there was a nice breeze out there all along.

Ghouls And Grinds

We hit up this spooky themed coffee shop last weekend during a road trip.  If I lived nearby, I'd be in there every morning.  We got their pumpkin pie latte and it was absolutely perfect.  Not too sweet, but loaded with a rich pumpkin pie spice flavor that was very different than the pumpkin spice that pops up every autumn in the usual shops.  I think I might have re-branded the drink as The Sleepy Hollow.  It was THAT good.

If you're ever in Hanover, PA, definitely seek this shop out.  I'd imagine Halloweens there are pretty rad.

Weird Stoneware

That is not dead which can eternal lie,

And with strange aeons even death may die.

Breaking in our new Spooky dish set with pumpkin treats from Trader Joe's (we hoarded a bunch back in October).  Been looking for something dark and unique for a while, and this design feels very swampy and Lovecraftian.

December Mornings

Gotta love a company that sends you a small metal coffee cup (ornament) when you order some dark and smoky Starbarn coffee.

I might sip out of it later.
