Farewell, Tolerance

In a bizarre case of political correctness run wild, educrats have banned references to “dinosaurs,” “birthdays,” “Halloween” and dozens of other topics on city-issued tests.
That’s because they fear such topics “could evoke unpleasant emotions in the students.”
Dinosaurs, for example, call to mind evolution, which might upset fundamentalists; birthdays aren’t celebrated by Jehovah’s Witnesses; and Halloween suggests paganism.

I'm glad we Haunters are around.

Many centuries from now, historians will look back on this time period (if we haven't destroyed the whole bloody earth in the meantime) and say that this was the beginning of the return of the "Dark Ages". A time when narrow-minded, fundamentalist, superstitious religions and dogmatic right wing politicians successfully molded the masses to their satisfaction. I could go on and on...it's frightening.

People like this are the reasons that one of my biggest worries about eventually buying a house aren't money, or school districts, or crime rates, but how I am going to find a neighborhood where Halloween still exists.

Pam really has it right. The amount of eggshells society has to/prefers to walk on now is crazy... We're so worried about offending anyone that we're missing the whole point of what we're here to do. Live.

From entertainment to politics (which some argue are one in the same) there has to be some sort of change. And I know Halloween has always been under scrutiny but it's just a small part in what's turned out to be a much larger fire. :(

We live in a nuthouse where you are not allowed to say or do anything to upset the inmates. One Flew over the Cuckoo's Nest comes to mind. This asylum we call the world is being run by the real lunatics.
