Halloween 2012: Skull Witches

My grandmother would tell us the story,
On each Halloween.

About something deep in those woods.
She called them Deathlies and Deadlies.
And she said they guarded 'the Witches,'
Witches with skull faces...

Very nice! It's very "classic". Can't wait to see more!

Rot it is breathtaking! Is that a tree stump for the cauldron? WOW. And those witches, in their "relaxed hanging out" positions is so eerie! Did you have to take it down and are you putting it all back up? Or did you risk it and leave it all? So original and amazing! love! Happy Halloween! What lucky neighborhood kids you have!

Your skeleton witches are UH-MAZING. You are such a talented artist. Pretty unbelievable that you are self-taught, although all the best ones are, right? ;)

Loved the feel of this haunt. Loving it. Can't wait to see more pics and video. Yup, I'm greedy! LOL.

Outstanding. The tree trunk cauldron and the skeletal witches are beautiful. I feel super jealous of the people who just happen to live in your neighborhood. Hope they realize how privileged they are.

Awesome haunt as always. My house exterior was sadly lacking this year due to the short amount of time after we moved in to the new house. Next year...

I'm so sorry to hear about having no power Rot. Ours just came on in our hood at about 3pm here in Baltimore County (Parkville). If you're up near Bucks Co., I guess you were closer to the path. But hey at least you have a nice Township that reschedules Halloween!
I hope you get yours ASAP and enjoy your Halloween too! Cheers!

Wow.

Absolutely blown away by your haunt this year.

The Skull Witches are totally your best work to date - the spiky stick spines, the spidery twig limbs, the decaying hats, the tattered gowns... Such natural poses too.
And that tree stump cauldron is gorgeous.

The Deadlies and Deathlies look incredible too. Your attention to detail is once again astounding. I cannot even begin to imagine how creepy this must've been at night. Can't wait to see the rest of the photos.

Thanks, everyone!
So glad you guys all dig.

Yeah...
I keep coming back to this and noticing new things each time.
That stump is just...flippin brilliant!...the curve of the spine to leftmost witch and the neck on the one to the right!???? Man I am just agog here. I'm about to go Wayne and Garth on hands and knees...

Thank you for continued inspiration. Awesome, absolutely awesome.

Rot said...

Thanks, man!

SO happy people are enjoying this year's Haunt.

I love the colors! The orange and green contrast so well. And your carved pumpkins are top-notch, as usual!

Rot said...

Thanks!
We used florescent bulbs this year. An orange one up in the corner of the porch and a green one tucked in the mache stump.

Smoother light than my old flood lamps. I didn't expect that.

Holy Moly!! Outstanding work, Rot! You've raised the bar yet again! Great idea on using a tree stump as a cauldron! I gotta step it up for next year! :)

Countess VonRauber (Heidi) said...

I cannot stop looking at the witch on the right. I'm obsessing with her spine! What a creepy, but amazing detail. She also looks as if she just noticed the viewer watching them... very realistic and unnerving in a good way ;)
Oh and the tree stump cauldron is out of this world. Perfect idea!

1 WITCH. Thrice the brinded cat hath mew'd.
2 WITCH. Thrice and once, the hedge-pig whin'd.
3 WITCH. Harpier cries:—'tis time! 'tis time!
1 WITCH. Round about the caldron go;
In the poison'd entrails throw.—
Toad, that under cold stone,
Days and nights has thirty-one;
Swelter'd venom sleeping got,
Boil thou first i' the charmed pot!
ALL. Double, double toil and trouble;
Fire burn, and caldron bubble.
2 WITCH. Fillet of a fenny snake,
In the caldron boil and bake;
Eye of newt, and toe of frog,
Wool of bat, and tongue of dog,
Adder's fork, and blind-worm's sting,
Lizard's leg, and owlet's wing,—
For a charm of powerful trouble,
Like a hell-broth boil and bubble.
ALL. Double, double toil and trouble;
Fire burn, and caldron bubble.
3 WITCH. Scale of dragon; tooth of wolf;
Witches' mummy; maw and gulf
Of the ravin'd salt-sea shark;
Root of hemlock digg'd i the dark;
Liver of blaspheming Jew;
Gall of goat, and slips of yew
Sliver'd in the moon's eclipse;
Nose of Turk, and Tartar's lips;
Finger of birth-strangled babe
Ditch-deliver'd by a drab,—
Make the gruel thick and slab:
Add thereto a tiger's chaudron,
For the ingredients of our caldron.
ALL. Double, double toil and trouble;
Fire burn, and caldron bubble.
2 WITCH. Cool it with a baboon's blood,
Then the charm is firm and good.
stay true~

Ok, first an apology for ringing in so late, it's been a crazily busy year.
Until I saw the 2012 display pictures I thought you couldn't get more creepy and outright chilling than you did with the Corn Witch.

I was wrong.

Fantastic work, Rot and Bean, simply fantastic.
