Split

We rented M. Night's latest film SPLIT over the weekend and went nuts over it.  My personal favorite film of his is UNBREAKABLE, and this now matches it.  If you haven't seen the film yet, PLEASE stay away from any talk of it...and any talk of the recent news on the sequel being planned.  It might ruin some of the cool stuff in this film.  So try to see it ASAP.

And click below for a track from the soundtrack... by West Dylon Thordson.

every last friday of each month we do movie night at the Free Library & this time the 3 of us lined up Unbreakable followed by Split along with a homemade matching cake. it was SO much fun!!!! James McAvoy really deserves a nomination for his portrayal, but, i'm not going to be really too hopeful for that, cause, horror is considered taboo, especially, when awards are being considered. the only horror movie to smash that was "Silence of the Lambs" & of course, Ted Levine who gave one of the most unselfconscious performances of all time, was the one actor in the film who was denied even an nomination. so, James Mc...may not be recognized as well.

Split..OMG. Perfect. we watched the bonus features on Split & Night is a true genius. he always knew...had THIS plan even wayyyyyyyyyy back then & when you watch Unbreakable now, it's right there, always has been. i have carried David Dunn around in my heart all these years & wondered how he was holding up. it's cool to hear James McAvoy & Night himself say, how he has gone back to his roots with the way smaller budgets. he's able to do exactly what he wants to now. that dude Night, the storyteller, definitely makes the world a better place for me. he understands the human spirit. it's like, he knows secrets..: ))))))))))))

& that song Frogbass by the Snails..sooooooooooooooo Good.
Thank You Night for recognizing it in Split..<333333333333333

I loved it! Was so excited to see the Unbreakable hook at the end. Cannot wait for more!

My daughter and I want to see this also. Gonna have to make a date for this weekend to watch it.

I RARELY go to the theater to see a movie. I agree it is much more peaceful to watch at home.

I loved both of them too. So many people didn't like Unbreakable? Really psyched to see where this goes.

Ok so it's $14.99 on Amazon UGHHHHHHHHH. It's, obviously, free at our library but on order and who knows when it'll receive copy. Booooooo. Im too cheap to see it soon, I guess.

i totally cannot recommend the library HIGHLY enough for borrowing movies. BEST deal going outthere. & if you get the disc from the Library you will also be able to watch the special features on the film & have it for 7 days before it needs to be returned. our waits on movies have never really been too long.

Sara..i still have the copy on me from last friday nights movie night, if you want me to burn a copy for you, i will & drop it in the mail to you. i also remember another film a lonnnnnnnnng awhile back you wanted to see but where were also having trouble with. for some reason, i think it was the doc "never sleep again" all about the Nightmare on Elm Street movies. i can copy that one too. it's no biggie. i have plenty of blank discs.

Girl6, thanks so much for offering! At this point I think we're going to buy it. We're M.Night fans anyway and it'd be nice to add to our collection. :) You're very generous, though! :)

You're welcome Sara!! No problem. Glad to hear you are buying it. always nice to have the whole legit package, especially the artwork. make sure you guys check out the Bonus Features too. Night doesn't do commentaries on his films. but, he does go thru all the deleted scenes in detail & gives a lot of nice backstory. & you will learn some very interesting secrets in the other featurettes. he really did a good job with keeping so much hush hush, while it was right in front of our eyes the whole time!! : )

I still absolutely LOVE Signs. Never saw Unbreakable....do I need to watch this before Split?

Rot said...

I would have to say that watching Unbreakable first would heighten the experience of watching SPLIT : )

Autumnleaf said...

Good to know Rot :)

Rot said...

yeah...the more i think about it...you probably should watch unbreakable first : )

girl6 said...

Autumnleaf...i totally agree about Signs. WONDERFUL movie. the aliens are just a side story, they're kinda like passengers actually. the real story is the beauty of finding yourself again, after being so lost. HOPE. LOVE that. AND...those aliens!!!! they look like crazy old school magic to me. : )

Autumnleaf said...

Unbreakable is on its way (used-very good) Should be ok. I'll wait for Split. Yeah girl6, I liked the whole package of Signs. Story, acting, the setting (I love corn fields), music. The only premise I found myself forgiving was the idea that water was deadly to the aliens. What were they thinking when they chose earth?

girl6 said...

Autumnleaf...i am going to watch Signs again tonight. it's been a while since we've checked it out. good point about the water being deadly to the aliens, because, if that was totally true, then why would they want to harvest humans from earth, because humans are actually made up of like 70% (more or less) water. so was the water really contaminated? where the aliens really evil? because, remember, they came at the darkest time for Mel's character. & the movie's message is..EVERYTHING happens for a reason. so, who sent them? or who are they really? faith is able to move mountains. think what faith could do to a glass of water for someone who is under deep emotional distress.

you've got the people in this world who only think of things as good/bad luck.
& then you've got the people who see signs & can read them.

You know, I think I'll get it out again as well. It's been a while and I really do love the story. Besides I need some inspiration to get my corn seed in. You're right though. As the title would suggest everything happens for a reason.
