They were obviously headstones of graves, though the graves themselves no longer existed as either mounds or depressions; the years had leveled all. Scattered here and there, more massive blocks showed where some pompous or ambitious monument had once flung its feeble defiance at oblivion.

I remember the shadow of the hand on the grandfather clock in the Haunted Mansion. I couldn't figure out how that was done until I looked over my shoulder and saw the rotating hand silhouettes. Yes, definitely shadows make for spooky scenes. I always position my graveyard props (grave markers, groundbreakers, skeletons) with the shadows in mind. It's like getting a BOGO.
The shadows from the hands on the tombstone are so neat - love how it adds something extra to the cemetery scene.
